Default Number of participants too high in Freerolls at Poker Stars?

I think Poker Stars is an excellent site and play there daily. They used to limit freerolls to 1,000 participants, then 2,000, then 4,000, and now 6,000. I know their site is very popular but I sure liked it better when they limited to 2,000. Maybe they should increase the number of freerolls and decrease the play money tourneys. They have the freerolls at odd times now and none during prime time after work. They could have two per night during the week and leave weekends alone as they are. This would only increase the weekly round money tourney on Sunday to about 600 people from around 540 currently. I love the site and have e-mailed them this suggestion. They replied that it would be considered. Let me know if you agree and if so then e-mail Poker Stars with your suggestion. The more they get the more they will consider. Again, its a great place to play, otherwise there would not be so many wanting to play there.

Poker Stars used to have evening freerolls but since they have gotten so popular they have stopped having freerolls at nite. I miss them to but instead of freerolls they started the play money tourneys at nite. I wish they would go back to the old way.

E-mail them. The more they get the better chance they will consider. Whether it is a freeroll or a play money tourney they still have people playing at that time. So lets ask for more freerolls in place of play money tourneys. Thanks.

I think thats a good idea, but I am not good enough to get to the final table in one of those freerolls. I like the play money tourneys, even though I do have a real money account, because I could get some sort of compensation for my time. Placing in the "Play money money" spots, make me feel like I have accomplished something. I definitely agree with you in that they should reduce the number of entrants to the freerolls. That is why my favorite large tourney on PokerStars is the $2000 2000 man play money tourney like at 8 PM ET almost every night.

I talked with support via an e-mail about Freerolls and they responded that management says they are fine as they are now.

Sadly, they are the only ones that think so.

in my opinion play money is a waste of time to compete for. but as far as the freerolls go i think they should have much more omaha hi/lo tourneys at a reasonable time. (not 1 in the morning!)

I agree being a pokerstars player for a while now. It does seem like there are more and more play money tourneys and not enough freerolls. im not a big fan of play money as i see it as just a waste of time where in freerolls you actually have a shot at winning real money.

I agree that there are to many people in freerolls. Its getting to the point where you need to be one of the best poker players in the world to even have a chance at making the money. It's either that, or you have to have the best luck throughout the whole tournament. And with that much luck, you mine as well play the lottery. There's better pay!

I don't like to think of the freerolls as opportunities to actually make money. I use them as tourney practice instead. Wading your way through 6000 people, about 5500 of which are random idiots going all in every hand, isn't easy. Besides, it's not efficient to invest that much time just so you can qualify to go up against even better people in another tournament. It's best to think of the freerolls as very rudimentary tourney practice. You can use the skills you hone in them to go rip up the sit n go's.

people talk about free rolls as tournament practice - there are tournaments in them self and they are fun - the fact that there are loads of 1k-2.5k people tourneys gives stars have a 6k give them a Unique Selling Point there are plenty of other sites you can play 2k tourneys on.

Anyway freerolls for poker sites are ways of getting people to play for real money. Then they can get you to play in money tourneys and collect a rake or a share of tourney entry - they dont want you to play in freerolls if you'd consider playing in money tourneys - and neither should we expect them to. the more hastle you give them the less charitable they are likely to feel about freerolls and it may have the reverse effect
