Default Steps to the EPT-PCA

THF Player of the Year
PCA STEPS

PokerStars has a brand-new way for you to turn just a few dollars into a $12,000 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure package: Step Sit & Go satellites. PCA Steps start at an affordable $7.50 or 500 Frequent Player Points and go up from there. Place in the top two spots in any of the PCA Steps events and we’ll give you a ticket to the next step. Make it all the way to Step 6 and you’ll play in a two-table tournament that gives the top three finishers a $12,000 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure package!

Even if you don’t win a ticket to the next Step, you might not walk away empty-handed. You stand a good chance of winning a ticket to the same or lower Step. You can start at any level you want, so get on the Steps today! Registration is available anytime; visit the “Events” > “PCA” lobby and choose “Sit & Go Satellites” to enter.

Important notes:

1. PCA Steps tickets are valid only for entry into PCA Steps tournaments.
2. PCA Steps tickets are not transferrable to other players.
3. PCA Steps tickets are not redeemable for cash or any other value.

You can check your balance of PCA Steps tickets via the PokerStars main lobby. Click “Requests” in the top menu bar and select “Tournament Tickets” to see your ticket inventory.

It's about damn time they do this. Although an improvment would be to make step tickets convertable into T$

While I still say its a god idea and about time, I disagree with the format. they should have 7 steps instead of 6, with step 6 having 2 qualifiers to step 7, 2 replays to step 6, 3 replays to step 5 and some extras.

Step 7 should be a $5500 single table with 2 top prize qualifiers, 2 step 7 replays, 4 step 5 replays and 1 step 4 replay.

Reasoning for this... it would be rough for low level players (or anyone) to make their way from step one to step 6 and hit top 3 out of 18 (obviously). My problem is, you play 5 tournys consisting of a single table but once you reach the final you are now facing 18 players instead of 9. Not to mention, once you reach the final step they have it as ALL OR NOTHING??? Top 3 get the $12,000 prize with nothing for 4th. In my opinion, in a step deal such as this, you should play the same tourny all the way through. Do they have a setup with a triple shootout being 27-man for the final? Of course not.

Just my opinion.

The more that I look at this, the more it pisses me off. How can they institute such a massive change in format once you reach the final step? It doesn't make any sense to me...

Step One
$7.50 9-handed
1st and 2nd - Step 2
3rd - Step 1 replay
4th - $1.50 replay

Step Two
$27 9-handed
1st and 2nd - Step 3
3rd and 4th - Step 2 replay
5th - Step 1 replay

Step Three
$82 9-handed
1st and 2nd - Step 4
3rd and 4th - Step 3 replay

Step Four
$215 9-handed
1st and 2nd - Step 5
3rd - Step 4 replay
4th and 5th - Step 3 replay
6th - Step 2 replay

Step Five
$700 - 9 handed
1st and 2nd - Step 6
3rd and 4th - Step 5 replay
5th and 6th - Step 4 replay

Step Six Final
$2100 18-man
1st, 2nd, 3rd - $12,000 Package
4th - NOTHING

Example:

A low limit player plays Step One and manages to win, moving on to Step Two.

He wins Step Two, advancing to Step Three

Finishes 4th in Step 3, gets a Step Three replay

Wins Step Three, advancing to Step Four

Comes in 6th in Step Four, gets a Step Two replay ticket

Wins Step Two again

Wins Step Three again

Comes in 3rd in Step Four, gets a Step Four replay

Wins Step Four, moving on to Step Five

Places 4th in Step Five getting a Step Five replay

Places 5th in Step Five, receives a Step Four replay

Wins Step Four again

Places 3rd in Step Five getting a Step Five replay

Finally wins Step Five

Comes in 4th out of 18 in Step Six and receives nothing.

Steps One through Five are 9-man, single table sit and gos... and each game grants the possibility of replaying the current step and/or moving down the ladder but continuing to play even if you don't place high enough to win... and Steps Four and Five grant replays all the way down to 6th place (out of 9 starting).

Step SIX is an 18-man tournament where the top three receive the top prize and everyone else receives NOTHING.

To me, that is obscenely wrong.

Two thumbs down PokerStars.

As always, a quick response from Stars support:

We are in fact considering several options for alternate Step 6
tournaments, including a 9-player event which pays out 1 PCA package
and Step 6 retries to places 2 and 3, etc. There will not be a Step 7. 6
steps to reach the PCA is quite long, as it is... adding a 7th step
only makes the frustration of anyone who reaches the final level and
ultimately fails that much worse.

Again, thank you for your time; we truly appreciate the efforts put in
by our players to improve PokerStars - we wouldn't be what we are
otherwise.
