Default The Tale Of Two SNG's On Poker Champs

AK is a curse upon my soul. In the first SNG I kept quiet during the first two passes of the button when I finally was dealt AK.

Elvis Pre Flop:

Opponent Pre Flop (unbeknownst to me):

The Flop:

I placed a pot-sized bet. Then my opponent raised, putting me all in. When I saw my two aces against his two fives, I was jubilant.

Then this ugliness was displayed:

And I was a goner. Now for the second SNG just take the above and replace the fives with 10's and it was the exact scenario. A 10 on the turn and I was the short stack. Two terrible bad beats. I figured when these guys saw the ace on the board and by the way I was betting they had to know I had a pair of bullets. As for their pot odds, well, at the $5.50 level nobody cares about pot odds.

Later in the second SNG with a slightly bigger stack but still the short stack at the table and with 6 people left I went all in with A 10 suited. I had enough chips to at least make the guys playing Foldem Holdem fold, but I got a call from a guy with two 9's. The board filled with 2 aces and a ten. One guy typed "bad beat from hell." Not when you beat the guy on the flop it isn't. Then the very next hand I was in the big blind with aces. The small blind tried a steal on me by bringing me all in again, and naturally I had to call. My bullets held up but then when I made the money I did as Lee Jones instructs by pushing hard with A3. "Random hands" my hiney, Lee Jones! I ran into a pair of ladies and that was it.

That is all. Sorry for my verbose prose, but I had to get it all out.

Quoting from the third edition of Lee Jones's "Winning Low Limit Hold'em" on page 201, regarding heads up play in a no limit tourney situation:

"...what hands should you jam with? Any ace, any king, any pair. Larger queens. Any two cards both higher than eight. If it is clear that your opponent won't defend enough, then raise with almost anything."

My mistake was in assuming that when we were down to just three players I treated it as a heads up situation. I guess it makes a difference. I also have really bad luck or I just suck in these situations, because when I jam I always run into a buzz saw of a hand.

I am still in search of a book or a guide on how to successfully play short handed limit and no limit.
