| Rebuy Tourney question--- Playing Online | |

| | | | Rebuy Tourney question--- A while ago I playing in a $11+R MTT and what I saw has bugged me(and kept me out of rebuy tourneys)...It was getting close (10-15 min) to the end of the rebuy period and I watched a guy across the table from me move all-in at least a dozen hands in a row; Mostly, he got beat (and rebought), twice he doubled (or tripled) up, moved all-in the next hand and got beat(and rebought)...then I saw him move all-in and win 3 hands in a row, and I'm just sitting there (wishing for aces) with my mouth hanging open looking across the table at a $17000 stack...unbelievable. My question- is this pretty normal for rebuy tourneys? This guy had to rebuy at least ten times, almost HAS to make the final table to get his money back...I chalked it up to idiocy until he told me to look at the TLB, and there he was, like 15th...Are all rebuy tourneys that wild, how many rebuys do you limit yourself to? Do any of you guys prefer these all-in fests?
Just trying to see the logic...
Signed,
Freezeout Fanatic
BTW-I nursed my little $6k stack as long as I could, but didn't finish close to the money

| | | | Thats not normel for most people, though you do get some crazy people from time to time. You can garuntee having tons of crazy people if you are playing on pokerstars. Every tournament i'm in on there its just full of people who either just don't care or have a lot of money to spend. | |

| | | | Simply put, that's completely normal. If you play rebuys, especially on PokerStars, you will always find those players with huge bankrolls that will spend anything and everything in a rebuy tourney just to get a big stack at the end of the rebuy period. It might seem stupid, and I think it is, but these players are very good players (usually). If these players can get a big stack, they can usually do wonders with it. And the reason they play rebuys, because the top spots pay so well. You're looking at over $5K for first.
I'm not a great rebuy player. I don't like spending much on a tournament as I don't normally play tournaments. I have only cashed once in a rebuy, a $5 where I made like $55, and spent $10. To me, it's just not worth it to play. Recently, I've been trying them, looking to NOT rebuy at all. If I get busted, I'll leave. If not, great. They are very interesting tournaments, but just not the right ones for a lot of people.

| | | | Happens in all of them my friend, at least at PokerStars. This happens because the good players... lemme rephrase, the good players with the large bankrolls want a big stack by 1st break. Period. I was in one with pbdrunks and he moved all in every-single-hand during the 1st hour. They don't care about a couple hundred dollars (or $700 in pb's case) when 1st place is over $12,000 (nightly $10R on Pstars).
Myself I will limit myself to 3 rebuys and the addon (though I rarely play rebuys except for satalites). I'll wait for big hands, move in and hope they hold. If 3 people or more are all in in front of my I will call off all of my chips with any 2 cards (any 2 cards can win)... 1st hour of a rebuy has nothing to do with poker. The game doesn't start until after the break.

| | | | Yea, this was on PS...does PS have a 'wild' reputation? Ive really only played on PS and PartyPoker...only PS now because of the cheaper vig...What would you consider a 'normal' site? | |

| | | | Yeah, you could call it a "wild" site. It has that reputation. I think that because everyone thinks PokerStars is where all the idiots play that every bad beat happens there, it causes even more of those to happen. People might loosen up because they think that's the only way to win on PS. I don't think that way or play that way, but I've seen it. Also, it's wild because it is so huge, there are so many players and so many games, that you are certainly going to get a wide variety of games with different players. Some ultra tight and good poker playing, others very wild and crazy. Sometimes you can weed out the crazy playing and find mostly good players. Other times you just have to deal with the idiots and hope to beat them.
And by the way, I'm playing in the $3R tonight at 20:15 .

I usually rebuy once, and add on at the break. Take my chances from there. | Thats just it, they WILL catch a hand eventually... They will catch HANDS eventually. You have to see, if you can win 3 hands IN A ROW against one or (normally) more players you are going to have a big stack.
Preflop odds with any 2 random cards vs an unknown 2 random cards "times" 3 callers you have roughly a one in 64 chance of winning 3 times in a row when you get 3 callers each hand. Do that and your stack is now over 50,000. This is why they play that way.

| | | | I usually rebuy at least 3 times. This is a normal strategy for some people, but not the top players. I like a more conservative, but willing to gamble style. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
