Default What do you do?

I have heard two different strategies for what I'm about to ask.

Some players get real aggressive when the blinds are at their lowest while others play it 'safe' or tight. Others, though, tell me they wait until the blinds are at least $100 before they get aggressive and execute some of their best bluffs.

How do you do it?

I think bluffing should be reserved for when there is most value in doing so. When blinds are small, it's just not worth risking your chips on a pure bluff. On the other hand, playing aggressively in terms of betting strong with the best of it or even on a good semi-bluff, is in my opinion never a bad thing, no matter what stage it is in a tourney.

The one thing I failed to include in this original posting was the fact that I, personally, don't employ either strategy....at least consciously. In other words, I play each hand, based on it's own merit and if the table displays an opportunity to bluff a hand, say on one tight-playing individual left in the hand, so be it.

Mike's reply reminded me that I'd left it a lil short. Thanks for the reply Mike!

yw Knight. I guess, in retrospect, my reply to your post wasn't very insightful---more common sense than anything else. I guess my point is that while some players choose to play strong hands a little slower in the beginning, I don't do that very often, even when the blinds are 1st level-small. So, I definitely agree with you that playing hands based on their own merit is the way to go. I have to admit though, picking good spots to bluff has always been tough for me to do, so I stay away from risking too much doing that if I can. (now I'm rambling,,, I hope someone else comes over the top with something a bit more helpful here. :-\ )

I never bluff. Well, rarely if never with more than 2 players at the table. I just seem to always get screwed big time when I try to pull that off. Especially if the flop is all hearts and I have the AK spades or something. If I make a bet to push a guy off the hand he always calls and then has the A of hearts and pulls a flush on the river.

Heads up I will semi-bluff. Never an all in bluff unless I have a low pair or something.

I hear ya CB. I won't say that I never bluff as sometimes the door opens and I walk right in, or (and this is usually the case), I take brief leave of my senses and raise with a 7-2. Regardles of why, 85% of the time......I regret it.

And for everyone that's asking....."haven't you learned by now?".....the answer is no. Women have a right to change their minds and men have a right to screw over themselves. :-\

I never show up till level 3 or so...just like Phil! ;D :

No, seriously that's a goo dquestion. I guess I just see what type of table I seem to be on, etc. Generally though, I would say I am much more prone to try to bluff or just win the blinds later when players have all sorts of stacks rather than early when it's fairly even.

And sometimes a small stack can be as effective or even more effective than a big stack when on a steal. Am I right on this? In other words, I am thinking, everyone expects the biggest stack to bully, but if a small stack bets a goodly portion of his chips...hmmm, does he have something? And if you ARE low, what the hell, you gotta hit a hand sometime anyway.

I like to try to start buying when the blinds get to level 7, that is 100/200 with a $25 ante. That ante makes a LOT of difference to me, the total of the antes is more than the big blind amount. I think that's the only level you can say that about. And then when it goes to level 9 (200/400/25), things really start taking off.
