| | | | PL Omaha 8OB tourney (PP) I'm a new member here. I think this forum is really cool and will get a lot more attention in the coming months. I started playing PS in '01 but have played almost exclusively on PP this past year. This will probably change, especially if I can get my private tourneys going. Those could be fun. Anyway, not sure if you guys care to see a PartyPoker screenshot, but I saw our own Ace10 put up a picture of his awesome win on the slots and thought... I'll just post it. It's my second PL Omaha Hi Lo win in three weeks. A very exciting run, to say the least.
Below was what I thought was the key hand for me. I'd like to hear anybody's thoughts on the way I played it after the flop. I was last to bet and, after the first two players made it a single bet to go, went all-in on a near-perfect flop for me. With a flop like this one, I had a decision to make. Pump it or try to extract as much as I can. I decided to just put my chips in, risking some folds. It turned out fine, but was it the right thing to do, given my late position?

Hi/Lo Omaha confuses the crap out of me. That is why I play holdem.

But then again, I can't chew gum and think at the same time. So, when I sit down at the table, the gum has to go!

| | | | Re: PL Omaha 8OB tourney (PP) I know what you guys are saying about Omaha. When I first started I was really lost (I mean, I knew the basics but then just kinda jumped right in and tried it out). Four hole cards was what made it really interesting to me. "Holdem + two more hole cards!" is what I thought. What's not to like about that??!! Well, I learned the hard way that there was a lot more to it, like remembering that you have to use exactly two hole cards. Can't tell you how many times I'd forget this simple but very important rule! I'd call down with hands I thought I had, but in fact didn't (and realizing it only when chips would slide in the wrong direction ???). It's so disheartening to call someone's pot limit bet on the river thinking you have the nut full house when you've actually got squat!,,, Oh well, a tuition fee of sorts I guess.
I guess now, since getting used to it, I've found the game to be a lot more straightforward than Holdem. Definitely one with a little less uncertainty, so yes it can be slow at times. But, if you're at the right table, it's pretty fun especially if it's Hi/Lo.
Most of my poker time is divided between PL Omaha 8OB and Limit Holdem. Looking to play more NLH tourneys although I need a confidence boost in that arena. knight, I wish I could say that I feel comfortable playing different games but the truth is that I don't... but I hope to change that with some work and a lot of advice. Anyway, I know this is a Holdem forum, but if anyone is interested in reading a good article on Omaha H/L, here's the link: http://www.playwinningpoker.com/omaha/ | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
