I cannot help but feel that there are more interesting points to focus our poker minds on than a thread that was started as a post tournament exit rant.

I have won small stakes SnG's without looking at my whole cards as well - I have done this at tiny stakes and I cannot claim not to have been exceedingly fortunate. This does not undermine the significance of starting hands. It just points out that there is more to poker than a simplistic starting hand formula and that a player who can read a table and read position can make considerable use of these skills.

It does amaze me how many people are willing to lie to themselves and assume that their luck is SOO much worse than anyone else's or that they never suck people out. Quite simply loses are more memorable as they have clearer more definative consequences. It is true that people may have occasions where they have significant losses or wins that affect their profit significally (i came second in a tourney to get 1300 less than first when my kk lost to 99 with even chip stacks once for instance) but in terms of how people's pairs do against ak, kk does against ak etc there are enough of these sort of things for anyone who plays as much poker as anyone reading this to be pretty close to even.

Anyone reading this will be playing enough that if they are not making decent money it is either down to poor bankroll management or poor play. Poker tournaments are there to be won by quality poker players in it for the long haul who accept that many tournaments will be exited because they have been outdrawn but equally know that every time they win an all in as a 70% favorite (roughly kk v ka if I remember right) there is a decent chunk of times that they will take an early shower but that the right play will in the long run pay dividends. You just cannot approach a poker tournament as something that is winnable with out considerable luck and you do need to be willing and able to afford to play a decent number of tournaments for the luck to balance out and for the skilled player to show a profit.

The odd flawwed and very lucky player may have the odd success but that does not chance the fact that you are much better being at the 70% or 80% than the 20% or 30% end and that if you cannot see you have done fine if your grab these oppertunities and have the strength of character to see that you have done right, would do it again, and will get the rewards that consistant quality play then you are better chosing long odds horses with funny names because you either lack the talent or the stomache for the wonderful game of poker.

I think it is fine to have a rant about getting knocked out of a tourney here or there and we all need to allow space to let this fly but for either side of the argument to continue the argument over something so silly seems such a waste when there are more interesting topics that could be discussed.

If we cannot find more profitable points for animated discussion than whether kk is a hand we want to be all in against ak with or not then we are in a really bad way. Equally if every time someone makes a valid point in a thread a personal attack is likely to follow then we are not likely to have interesting poker discussions.

You have a professional teaching you and still solidly maintain your -17% ROI. What exactly does anyone have to say to get you to even entertain the possibility that you might not be right?

Little difficult to do when you don't let on what your screennames are and even deny your Stars name when someone figures it out
