Default Live play

I have never actually had the opportunity to play a live tournament. And to be honest, I dont really think id be any good...........not judging by the way i play online when i hit a moster lol, i get over excited and live this wouldnt be a great poker face lol

Ive just been asked today though, to join someone in liverpool in Feb 16th n 17th for WASS. I'd like to go just for the opportunity, but should i try and join a few live games before hand??

Once upon a time I was considering trying out the UK B&M scene. Never quite got around to it. There were easy to find web sites which listed the upcoming and regular tournies. Buggered if I can find them now. I did find a link I hadn't seen before which may be useful. I'll mail it.

In general, I would have said, yes go try it out first, but the UK scene is a bit odd. Most of the weekly tournies seem to be £10 buy in & rebuy tournies, so it could get expensive. Other tournies are more than that in the main, and many are still rebuys. Occasionally you find a casino that will run a beginners tournament for say $5 and that will be a freezeout. But the chances of them being local to you are small.

The other peculiarity is that most tournies are pot limit. So not much use if you want to practice no limit. There are some no limit, but fixed limit? what's that? doesn't happen.

Of course things may have changed a bit since I last researched it, hence I'm sending the link, so you can see for yourself.

Seriously though I'd get a few practice hands in if possible. Just to get used to looking at your cards, moving your chips and getting used to the pace etc. 1st time I went to a game (in Huddersfield) I was bricking it but I worried for nothing as 99% of people there want to play poker and won't berate you for mistakes.

Seems a common theme doesn't it? Thought about the UK poker scene but never quite got around to it. You can't help feeling the limited availability and limited choice of games doesn't help.

God I wish I had some money! I'd start a card room in the UK and do all the things the other places don't. The first thing I'd do would be to get rid of the "dealers choice" ring games, not least because many places don't even provide a dealer. And even though I rarely play it, there would be plenty of Fixed Limit action too. And......well loads of things really.

bottom line is yep - do

There are good options. Many places have pub poker leagues (free to enter and can often win prizes) and this is a good place to start.

With myself it wasnt the tells I was so worried about but playing with chips. It is different when you dont have a pc to do all that for you and this will take up part of your energy when you need to be focusing on the players.

As for tells yep they do exist but they are not the be all and end all of live poker

I've just started to notice pub leagues appearing in my area, sadly they are on evenings already booked, and they charge up to £5 to cover costs.
