Default Update on PKR

PKR is trying to do some things to keep people from the U.S. on their site. I received this yesterday...

our freerolls just keep getting bigger - and better. With 8 running every day, including our $500 Sunday Mega-freeroll, we're adding a big taste of real money excitement to play money games on PKR.

And remember, PKR is committed to paying out ALL of our freeroll winners, including those in the United States. These prizes are not classed as gambling winnings and are unrelated to the current Goodlatte Bill going through the US Senate.

Angry Illinois senator responds

An e-mail from my senator:

Thank you for your message regarding Internet gambling and H.R. 4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2005. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

The debate over Internet gambling has generated strong public interest.
Most types of Internet gambling operations are prohibited under federal law, yet many Internet gambling operations are based in foreign countries and are beyond the jurisdiction of American enforcement agencies.
Overall, Americans spend roughly $4 billion to $6 billion a year on Internet gambling. Because of the largely unregulated nature of this business, Internet gambling sites often fail to block access to gambling by children and often lack effective safeguards against fraud. Further, Internet gambling can be addictive, and this addiction has had a harmful effect on some individuals and communities.

H.R. 4411 would address Internet gambling by prohibiting those who are in the business of gambling from knowingly accepting credit cards, checks, electronic fund transfers or similar financial instruments in connection with unlawful Internet gambling. The bill would impose fines and/or prison sentences on violators. The bill also requires the Secretary of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board to issue regulations directing banks and other financial transaction providers to adopt practices to enable them to identify and prevent restricted transactions that support Internet gambling.

I agree that stronger steps should be taken to prevent unlawful Internet gambling. As we craft laws and regulations that address this problem, we must work with law-abiding financial transaction providers to ensure that we do not impose unrealistic or overly burdensome requirements on those providers.

H.R. 4411 passed the House of Representatives on July 11, 2006. The Senate Majority Leader has the discretion to bring this bill before the full Senate for consideration at a time of his choosing. I will keep your concerns in mind in case H.R. 4411 or related legislation is debated on the Senate floor.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to stay in touch.

In other words -- don't bother me, I've voting for the bill. I knew there was a reason I didn't vote for him.

Just received this today. I haven't played at Dream in a long time, but the fact remains, they are still banning us Americans.

Dear Chris

You may be aware of recent developments in the United States whereby online gaming regulations are being more strictly enforced.

Although the onus is on you as a player to ensure that you abide by the regulations of your state, DreamPoker has taken a decision
to stop accepting purchases and play from players who play in your specific state.

We therefore request that you refrain from making further purchases or playing further on our site.

We further request that if you have any remaining balance in your account that you withdraw that balance at this stage.

We will leave your account unlocked until October 11 2006 in order to facilitate any remaining balance to be withdrawn.
After that date, you will need to contact support to assist you with the withdrawal process.

We would like to thank you for your support of our site to date and express our regret for any inconvenience which this may have caused you.

That's very interesting, considering I received this e-mail from Dream just 11 days ago:

Deposit $50 THIS WEEK into your DreamPoker account and get another $50 free UPFRONT in your account. That's my offer, call or fold?

Do it now and email me the code 'NB502' to claim your cash.

Let me know ASAP!

I recieved this one today from Purple Lounge
I havent recieved anything from Dream yet but I guess I better get my money out of there if I want it

Dear Shelly As you will be aware there are currently several actions being taken in the US against online gaming companies. While this has so far focussed on organizations based outside the untied states involved in taking sports bets from US resident citizens we believe that the current legislation at both a federal and state level is insufficiently clear to allow us to continue taking business from US residents at this time. Further clarifications of the rules governing online poker and casino as opposed to sports betting are required and hopefully when this clarification is in place we will be able to resume taking bets and poker traffic from players based within the United States. Until the existing legislation is clarified, Purple Lounge will no longer take customers, bets or poker rake from any player resident within the United States of America. Any US player who holds a Purple Lounge account with a current balance will be able to withdraw their money over the next 14 days. Please note that this action is not a Prima/Microgaming Network restriction but a decision taken by the Purple Lounge Team alone and applies to Purple Lounge only. We do apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by this action and we will of course endeavour to keep you sufficiently informed of any change in this policy. Kind Regards Purple Lounge

Just received this from Dream Poker this morning. I'm not sure why certain states are excluded and others are being allowed to continue, but I'm in the excluded area, so it makes little difference to me. Just as well, as I haven't played on dream in a long time anyways.

Dear Chris

This letter serves to clarify the recent decision by DreamPoker to stop accepting play from players
from 7 states in the United States of America (Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, Washington, Wisconsin).

1. Please note that this decision was a decision taken by DreamPoker on its own and is not a decision taken by
either the Prima Poker network or Microgaming. This decision was not forced on DreamPoker by Prima Poker
or Microgaming but was a decision taken by DreamPoker based on current legislation in the USA.

2. This decision only affects players from the abovementioned states and in no way affects players from any
other states in the USA. Play continues as normal in other states.

3. The accounts of non depositors have been locked and no further play will be accepted on those accounts including freerolls.

4. The accounts of depositing players are being left opened until 11 October in order to facilitate withdrawals of
any remaining balances in those accounts. DreamPoker kindly requests that those players refrain from playing
further on DreamPoker. These accounts will be locked after 11 October.

DreamPoker sincerely regrets the inconvenience this may have caused to any of its players.

DreamPoker would like to thank all those affected players for their support of the site until now.

Thanking you

Don Carter

Here's another E-mail I recieved today from i4poker-------

Dear Player,

As of September 18, i4poker.com and B2B Poker Network will no longer accept
customers from the USA. The reason for this decision is the ambiguous legal
situation regarding gambling on the Internet in the US, where authorities
have taken legal actions against certain gaming companies.

All existing US accounts will be excluded from the poker client, and will
therefore not be accessible for playing. However, the accounts will remain
open for withdrawal of funds. As opposed to the poker client, US customers
are still welcome to play at our casino.

All promotions connected to US accounts will be terminated on September 18.
In order to benefit from any pending promotional offers, they must be
cleared prior to September 18. Also, VIP-points must be used prior to that
date or they will be lost.

We do apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by this action and
express our sincere thanks for your support and patronage. We will of
course inform you immediately of any change in this policy.

Kind regards,
i4poker.com
