Question wsop capped at 2000 entries

The wsop will be capped at 2000 entries this year and according to event coordinators, it will easily hit this mark. Does anyone see the wsop raising it's stakes in the next few years to limit the amount of entries?

I think they should up the stakes a little to weed out some of the competition. There was a reason why it was $10,000 when it started, that was a lot of money for those guys to lose thirty years ago. With the WPT finals at $25,000 I'd like to see the WSOP to be at least $30,000, even though that means I wouldn't be able to play in it as soon as I'd like, I still want to see the jump.

Default I agree

You have to raise the entry fee for the WSOP. This is the poker event that gets the most coverage and attention worldwide, and 10 grand just isn't that much money anymore. I say make it 50,000 and allow as many people who want to buy in to play in it.

This might be the first time I agree with Ck... 50g sounds good... the bellagio tournament is 25g, I respect that winner more (not as many entrants, more serious pros etc.)

i think 50 gs would be perfect concidering some pros play limits as high as 20000-40000

If they raised it to 50 grand it would be very bad for the game of poker. One of the reasons so many people play is because they can play with the professionals for a relatively cheap price(compared to the money you can win). By adding more people you add more fish and more money in the prize pool. I don't think the pros mind all the people because they usually outlast them anyways.

What if baseball decided that you have to have a payroll over 100 million to be able to go to the playoffs. A small market team could not even have a chance to get into the playoffs then. (I know this is a bad analogy but can't think of a better one right now)

I am all for other tournaments to raise the buy-in(25g like the WPT championship is great) but the World Series should stay around 10-20 thousand.

I want the World Series to be the World Series, I am sorry, but I want the best player in the world to win, that has not been the case the last few years because of the number of players... With more and more entrants it becomes more a of a crap shoot. I consider the Bellagio championship to be the better tournament now.

The best player can't always win or there would be no point to playing poker. When there were only a couple hundred players the best player always won? I highly doubt that. If you know the best player will always win who would risk their money? What if the "so-called" best player in the world could not afford the 25k buy-in. The best player would not win the tournament then. If a person is the best they should be able to beat 1 million people in the same tournament. Sorry I'm playing the devil's advocate here but you have nothing to back up your statements.
To affoid it being a crapshoot they should do what the WPT championship does and give people more chips. Then the pros will have a nice advantage.

The only evidence I need is the last two WS. In no way were the winners even to be considered World Class. That is terrific that anyone can play against the pro's, etc, but thats not what I want in a "World Series." The purpose of the WSOP was to crown the "best player in the world." Obviously this is not literal, any player could win any day, but in its conception, many many years ago, $10,000 was a lot more money... Gas was less than a buck, you could buy candy for a nickel, being a millionaire meant something... Its called inflation, for a money based game they should adjust accordingly... They still don't give out the same prizes to the winner of the US open do they? As I said before, the Bellagio World Championship is much more of a proving ground to me- They start with 50,000, blinds at 50-100 and they move up every two hours. I don't want a crap shoot, Im sorry I want the final table to consist of Lederer, Ivey, Hansen, Negraneu, Juwanda, etc. not "internet player A" and "partypoker qualifier B." Its a championship for a reason, build a bankroll big enough to enter a tournament and ill give you the respect accordingly. This will all change when i win a satellite entry and take it down though of course jk.

and also the baseball analogy is hideous... Take 8 teams out of the league and who will notice? Oh yeah everyone because the games will be better and the league will be more competitve... I dont even want to get into it.
