Really can't disagree with any of the points you bring up Cowboy, but I still don't think anything should be changed. Whereas there is a lot of skill to poker, it is still considered a gambling game and luck plays a huge roll in the outcome wheter its a bunch of amateurs playing, or a bunch of pros playing. If the amateurs play like amateurs and make stupid calls their luck is going to run out eventually. Adaptability in any sport or game is essential to success. You see it when teams make adjustments for another teams strength, heck I've even heard one pro poker player talk about how he had to change his game when playing Lane Flack because of Flack's propensity to play any kind of hand. What would be interesting to find out, and I know we never will, is to look at last year's WSOP list of participants and tally up the number of "amateurs" vs. the number of "pros" see what the percentage is, then look at the list of people who placed in the money and compare the percentage amateur vs. pro there too. Would make for some interesting analysis. Poker is a game for the people, unlike sports where only the best of the best can compete on its biggest stage, at least all of the people can have the opportunity to play in a great event like this and experience the thrill of participating in what is considered the greatest event in poker.

its a lottery basically, thats true but its the world series of poker even if there was a million people in it it still would be a great event.

I dont think its a joke its the best tournament in the world.!!!Plus its not hard to beat out 7000 people in a couple of weeks, maybe in one night online yea but if you take it slow and hope you get the cards, it should be fun and entertaining. People enter to win obvcourse but they also know everyone else has to loose, so its a fight for survival and thats is why I think it is the greatest tournament of all time.

Thumbs up wsop

If the pro what there own tournaments i am pretty sure that whould start one
but i think they can make more momey off the amateures than they can off
each other that why you have alot of pro play online, the wsop has ben open
to all player that had the 10,000 yes i think is like the lotter but if you are a pro
you have a better chances of making in to the money that most of the amateures do. they may or maynot win skill and luck will play a big part
in the wsop but if you have skill like the pro you have a pretty
big edge over most amateures there in it for the long haul and the money the more
player in the wsop the more money to be won by both pro and amateures
i think the pro whould like this fact becuse there in it for money that why
they are pro and that what make them pro by make there living from player
like us it i number game more is more to them the more of us the more money they wil have a chance to win. pretty sure if it was all luck they whould stop
playing in the wsop and just play with each other in there own little tournament but i do not think this will not be the case there whole life revole around gambling what one more bet 10,000 to make millions pretty sure that
they will play and will make a big majored of the money.they may not win but
they will play and keep playing becuse of the money that what make them pros. just bucuse you can play in the wsop dosn't make you a pro you have win
event like the wsop and other tournament where you can make a living at it.
fact is fact they where not all ways pro they had to work at it just like us by playing in tournamemt like the wsop. and it is alot harder for them than it use to be
becuse there are alot more players today. but they will make more money them they us to too becuse of this fact and we will keep play becuse we what to
be like them. where eles can you walk in and put up a small fee a play in the main event and have a chance win millions .

the thing that no body has said is that yes an amature won it the last 2 years but about 5000 - 6000 did not even cash if you look at the results the pros had about 60 % of the cash spots just not the winner so the best players are getting there just hasnt had the luck to win in the last 2 years

Well if an amature won in any other sport it would be unheard of. What kind of competitive tournament has amatures topping the pros? I'd rather see someone well established in the poker community win, rather than look at someone new who may very well have just got lucky.

All i'm saying is with a tourney tour, people can prove themselves worthy of competeing for the title, rather than tossing up thier special dice and hoping for a 7.

Because of amatures and the internet...the pros don't have to finish #1 to win their million....a lot more money is paid off down the line because of amatures and the internet.

It would be a big let down if the top prize for winning the WSOP went back to 1 million.

why would you want to get rid of the so called "dead money" players? I'm sure all the pros wouldn't want that to happen. It's the greatest tournament on earth. The whole reason why we talk about it or love watching it is because anyone can enter it. If you have $10K then you can sit down with the best and see what happens.

As for the person who wins is usually the person who has the best run of luck. Well, that's the same as all tournaments. If you're going to win one you've got to win your fair share of 50/50's. I've just come 10th in a tournament that started with over 500 players and without me winning a few AQ v 55 or 44 v AK then I wouldn't have done so well. It doesn't mean I'm more skillfull or luckier than the other player. It's just poker. On another day my Aces won't hold up against someone playing KJo when they flop a str8. Sure it hurts and I should've won but if the best starting hand always won we wouldn't play poker would we?

End of story Dr. Winston...I think you said it best!

lets get our seats and play!...what makes it great is that anyone with 10k can play against the best. That is something that you can't do in professional sports, you can't just walk up hand over some money and get in the NFL Superbowl...but in the WSOP the general public can do just that and that just add's to the interest of it all!

yeah i agree. It makes the series even better to watch because you can watch the 'amateur' players' progress through the tournament and support them, because they represent the non-professional section of poker. we should be supporting these guys, they prove that you dont have to have 50 years of experience to win some money playing poker..... it certainly keeps my hopes up knowing that i could play there one day. good to have some new faces anyways
