I have to disagree with Saltzman. Just look at it in the Binion's Casino Owner eyes. 7000 people paying 10k each its 70 million. Add up the Espn broadcast. Damn its a lot of money for a 4 day tournament. I think it should continue to be that way. Yes pro don't win but check it out. last two years two amateurs won and Harrington was in both final tables. He proves that pros can get there if the play good poker. I think that if we want to see pros contending, there should be an ESPN broadcasted only pros tourney.

That is an amazing feat, by the way, that Harrington has been to both of the final tables. 7000 people is a LOT, maybe they should up the entry fee, or limit the number of people, seeing as last year they could barely hold everyone in the casino. I think if this trend continues, the WSOP really will become a joke and something needs to be changed very soon.

Id like to think on my best day I can beat anyone and on my worst lose to anyone.Only one way to find out....lets play
If you are good you can prove it, and anyone can get lucky in one single outting. My father always told me, anyone can beat anyone on any givin day. Its the one who persistantly wins that is the better.

Sure you can pull a miracle off on one tournament, but to place top 10 in every tourney on a mini tour, now that means something.

A tour where you must qualify will help filter out these miracle amatures in the WSOP who take luck in poker to a new level. It's sickning to see them make a down right stupid, against the odds play and then when they luck out, they call it a new and bold move.

Like i said, it was very nice having the feeling that you can be on TV in a main event just by winning one tourney, but if poker ever wants to be respected as a competitive sport, it needs to straighten up and organize. Filter out the one hit knocks off the street.

However with that being said, we do still need todays type of WSOP to keep the enthusiasm at the pace that it is now at!...there needs to be 2 major tournaments.

Wow. I mentioned the same suggestion about 3 months ago and was basically told it could never work. I think its a great idea.

I understand the points brought up in favor of raising the entry fee and others, but I don't think they should change it. There is a reason most amatuers are called "dead money" and with over 7,000 entrants there will be that many more. Yeah you are going to have those amateurs that get by with some incredible luck, but ultimately if the pros are playing the way they are capable of playing, they will still have a great shot at doing well in the tournament. The fact that an "ordinary Joe" can turn a rather small amount into a seat in the WSOP and maybe even eventually a WSOP champion's bracelet is part of the reason poker has become so popular. TJ Cloutier was asked about so many people getting in the tournament and he basically said there is room at the table for anyone. I look forward to the WSOP every year and part of the reason is because of the stories behind the people who are making an unexpected run. And even though the last two winners that have won have been amateurs, they both played some solid poker, had some very good fortune, both of which the top professionals need to be successful too.

I think the number of entrys may be to hi but some of the players may be worthy and this is the only way they can afford to play in it.

Please no one dont take offense to this Im just asking what you think.

Maybe the profssionals are given too much credit?
Do you think someone off the street would beat Tiger woods in golf?
Could hit a home run off Randy Johnson?
Beat Michael Jordan 1 one 1?
Maybe the proffessionals arent as far above us as we believe.
If they are as good as we think they are ,they should be able to overcome the obsticles. If they cant are they worthy?

Do they have a senior tour?

Maybe your way is right Cowboy. When it starts everyone has a fair shot ,the pros have to earn their way as well over the heats leading up.Let the best man/woman win.

The problem wisak and Xtra is that the more bad players, the more luck is a factor.

Chips are your ammo, and when bad players lose thiers, your opponents get those chips they lost, making it harder for you to bully people down and really bring out your play.

You have to know when your odds allow you to bluff, and if you dont know then you are playing bad. You can't randomly guess when is a good time to bet or not, that is amature play. The more amatures in the tourney, stocking up the other players, the harder it becomes for you to do well.

So the way it is becoming, if you don't get lucky and bust out a bad player early, you will be left behind, and thats not poker, thats slots and roulette. With people who arent pros, the game is flawed and luck comes into play more than ever. Its not like golf where if one player plays bad and the other good, the good player will win. Every players actions have a direct impact on all other players in the game.

I think you are probably right the way you just explained it,but I just wonder if the caliber of pro will be proven better by having to face the tougher challenge.

I say they need to fix it where you have to win or place so many times in the year to be able to enter the wsop .I recon the point system would be the best way .need so many points to enter.or only say let one person represent each online cacino.
