Default I am DEFINITELY not Gus Hansen

I tried to play like him last night at my league game and got absolutley crushed. I normally play a straightforward game at this particular venue because the players are pretty week but I figured that I would experiment and loosen up a bit. I was basically playing any type of coordinated hand and I slowplayed my big ones. I started out strong but if you mess up one or two hands you are done. I messed up more than one or two. I am clearly not able to play that style of play but at least now I know it. The main reason why I did so poorly was actually because of a pot I had won. Basically I bluffed the shit out of some lady with J7 off and won a huge pot and, because the lady was acting like a bigshot all night, ( saying she used to be a dealer, correcting everyone on there etiquette etc) I thought I would rub it in and show her my bluff. Well the rest of the table saw that and from then on my game went to crap. I couldnt push anyone off a pot. My last hand I got dealt pocket 10's ( my nemesis hand, which was proved again last night) and raised 5x BB to 1000 in late postion. Some dude called with a damn AJ. Well, the board came XXJ and he bet all in. I thought he was bluffing with small pair or AK but he had AJ and I was out. It was a terrible play I know so save the "terrible play" comments. It was the worst poker I have played in a long time.

The moral of the story? If you are going to play loose and reckless, DONT advertise cause you will not be able to bluff the rest of the night and if you dont get another monster you are done for.

Ive tried different styles and felt very uncomfortable.I was wondering if you thought if you played that style for a while you would do better afer you grew more accustomed to it ,or its just not for you.! wonder if you work it in slowly if it will be like second nature.Im thinkimg about putting more diversity into my game on occasion ,so I was just wondering.

Lmao on the rubbing it in.I bet she loved you.

Now gus shows hands also, however everyone knows him and his wild style of play.(He also shows his monster hands that no one called) They know at any given time he could have the nuts, or he could have total complete garbage. The problem is they don't know when he's full of it. If you played this style against the same people over time they would catch on to your wildness, and not just assume you're a crappy player.(or you could lose and lose and lose lol)

Either way, POCKET 10'S SUCK!!!!!!!! Has anyone ever won with them online? I know I havn't.

Not to mention Gus is an artist at reading people. I don't always agree with his style of play (I think it's people like him who ruin online poker for a lot of us . . . new players watch him play every hand under the sun and don't realize that TV edits to show only the great hands and not the hands where he gets pushed off a pot with one of those marginal hands. As a result everyone thinks poker is a bluffing game and they don't care to learn the skill behind it. But I digress.) It takes an incredible amount of skill, not experience, to put opponents on hands the way he does.

I agree on the pocket 10's. I have decided that I am not playing them ever again. But as far as being better at this style as time goes on, well, I think that I could get better at this style but I am not good enough post flop yet for it to be profitable. But it is hard to tell based on just one night because I have been just playing bad poker lately I may move to higher limits pre-maturely to make me focus more cause right now I am not and my results are plummeting.

I know what you mean .Sometimes I cant get comfortable or relax enough to focus on the game. But when you are in the zone you can feel it!For me to zone back in I go to a small sit where I seem to feel more confident.

I have had pocket 10's many, many times and I have only lost once with them. I have no qualms about playing them. Of course now that I have said that and tempted the poker gods I probably will never win with them again.

who the hell would lay down ten ten pre flop? unless there are a lot of raises and you think you are beat you shouldn't fold... I win a lot with them.. they are like middle pairs (middle pairs are 88-JJ) and you should see a flop with them and raise a little bit the probrability of a AKQ to come on the flop is 50% just because they are two picture cards they don't always win
