Colonel John ran same time in Santa Anita Derby as Big Brown in Fl Derby 1:48:16 exactly and these races were at a 1 1/8. So I guess we will just have to wait and see who the last eigth of a mile benefits and who really has it in them. I think I am going with Big Brown, his victories just look way too impressive to go any other way in this race.

These first 3 races of his are Secretariat like performances, this cannot be overlooked. And the powerful full length strides from him at the end of all of his races, this has got to be taken into account. He also stalked beautifully in 1 of his races, so I do not see a few horses getting in front of him in the Derby as a problem to this horse. 1 last note look at his homestretch turns they are just perfect.

Post 20 can't be over looked either nor can results from a synthetic racing surface.

Post 20 looks just too tough to win from with the other speed in the race and I just can't get past his lightly raced history.

I may change later but right now I am leaning to Colonel John slightly over Monba with Pyro 3rd and Big Brown 4th.

Updated picks

Pyro
Gayego
Z Fortune
Monba

im going to bet the pick 4, it is going to have guaranteed 1 million purse, im going All - All - All- big brown, so we will see what happens, 9 horses in field for 1st leg 9 for second 8 for third and then the derby, dont let me down BIG BROWN ur a champ. Then im going superfectas, big brown keyed on top, then colonol john , pyro, and tale of akati, behind him, im gonna place these 3 horses second third and fourth, and put all in each slot, so bigbrown, w pyro , colonol jon , tale of akati, with pyro, colonol john tale of akati, then All for fourth, Then big brown All with those 3 for third and forth and so on. I think i will also use jon on top in some supers possibly also.

They didn't have much choice for BB, all that was left was 1 2 18 20. The 1 and 2 can get ya killed in a 20 horse race. So they went with the outside for the clean start. If Kent can get him over, and save a little ground going into the 1st turn, I hope he can run them all down. Please please, lets have a triple crown!

Supposedly, Big Brown's jockey wanted a far outside post. Can't wait for the race. Has anyone ever attended this event in person? I have to believe the entire atmosphere is incredible.

May one point out that there is only one "The Derby". This is run at Epsom in the first week of June. All others are mere copies and should always be qualified with the location name. They aren't always proper Derby's either as the correct Derby distance is 1 mile 4 furlongs. Just check the history books.

I have never been on Derby day, but I have been to Church Hill downs, and seen the twin spires. I even paid for the back stretch tour!! It was fantastic. The Kentucky Derby museum is indredible there too! You can watch every Derby ever run at your own discretion. It is a don't miss experience, if you are ever in Loiusville.

My family and I were in Lexington a few years back and we went to the Kentucky Horse Park and had a great time.

A cute story about my daughter. She was about 6 years old and we were watching a horse race, I think it was the Preakness. As they were coming down the stretch she saw the jockeys whipping the horses. She says: "Daddy, why are they hitting the horses?" To which I replied: "Well by whipping the horses, it makes them run faster, and the better you finish the more money you get." Without hesitating she says to me: "I don't care how much money I could win, I would never hit a horse to get more money."
