Split? Do any of you do this?
In my live game if somebody has a marginal or less hand they'll often offer to split the pot hoping not to get beat. We have a couple of players that have said, "I never split". I've made it a mission to teach them a lesson. One I think I have convinced but the other is hard headed. This was my example from last night.
We'll call her Melissa.
Melissa is a tight "Lock Fighter". I'm on the button and she raises to 6x preflop from early position. The action is folded to me with QTs. This ironically is her favorite hand. I figure it's heads up, I know she has a big hand (AK-AT, AA-JJ). I call thinking if it's low cards I'll find out real quick if she has a pair but putting bet out there. She'll fold if she doesn't hit. She know's I could have anything because I was "Luck Fighting" earlier in the night.
Before the flop came out I offered to split. She says, "no, no... I have a good hand"... Duh!
Flop: AKJ FLOPPED IT!
I flopped it but I knew she probably flopped it in a big way too so now it's time to go to school.
I offer to split again. "no, no... I can't"... Duh!
She checks I bet about 2/3 the pot, she quickly pushes all-in. I think my chips beat her's to the pot as I said, "I offered".
She turns over AJ (2 pair). The turn and river were blanks and I won a big pot.
That was the second time I did the same thing to her. I hoping that she's learned her lesson and next time I ask to spit when I'm behind she will and save me some money.
