| Table Presence? Playing Live | |

| | | | Table Presence? I seem to have a better presence at live games and I think it helps compared to my online presence. My confidence and eye contact, etc comes out and can be somewhat intimidating. I can't get that across online. Online people use ugly icons and the such to be intimidating, but we can block those if we want.
Wondering what everyones experience is when it comes to their table presence? What tricks do you use to intimidate other players live or online?

| | | | One of the most intimidating lines live or on line is when a final table heads up opponent say's "do you want to chop?...you say...I'll deal, if you want to deal...here's my deal....winner takes both first and second place prize money!"...then watch the commanding control that you will have over that opponent!...whether he accepts the offer or not!

I don't see how making a smartass comment would intimidate him.

I am sure that you are aware of the $5,200 buy in winner take all on P Stars...it would not be that much different...or in a HU or HU shootout...only the winner gets paid....At that point in the game there are only two of you left, so what is the difference?...you just increased the winners prize is all!
Cat5cane never chops a pot and when I told him that...he said he is going to start using it!

| | | | Table presence eh? OK, you can all read what it says to the left. Aging hippy. So I think it's just as well I don't play live games, I'd be so busy pissing myself laughing I'd never play a hand. Why? Well how do you think I relate to all the pretensions and posing of real life? In real life, so many people spend so much time and effort on image and what others think, and it's all a waste of time because nobody with eyes to see will ever be fooled because an act is always obviously an act. And they never realise it is futile, that is both sad and funny. Even sadder is that some people fall for the image thereby reinforcing the spurious idea that image is important. I am who I am, that is all you get, no image, no affectation, no pretence. For example, when I met my wife I was really pleased she was not into makeup, just honest reallity, proud of who she was with no attempt to hide behind some false image.
So sit me down with 9 people all trying for the poker equivalent of an Oscar and I have grave doubts about my ability to take it at all seriously. I can't help wondering how they would react to me not being impressed. Oh well, if I ever get another job maybe I'll find out, just for the hell of it.

| | | | On that note RD I will say, whether you are in jeans or a suit, make up or no makeup, some players just seem to have a better poker face, stare down (what ever you want to call it) in a live game. It works against less experienced players at least. | |

| | | | Well indeed. Every human endevour has those who excel at it, but equally, every such endevour will have its irreverent idiots who can't stop themselves from seeing the funny side. I'll give you a clue, my yahoo id is passingidiot. It's a quote. (Go on 7letters, stretch your tv comedy memory one more time...)(Sorry about the aside Cat, but me and 7 have this occasional challenge!) | |

| | | | No offense, but judging by the amount of unneccesary use of words, i've just been intimidated to move on the next thread. LOL | |

You have played a $50 tourny for 7 hours to find yourself HU where the winner gets $12,000 and 2nd place gets $7500. You have a slight chip advantage and know that you are a better player than your opponent. Try to understand for a moment that even your buddy the HU professional loses 40% of the HU games he plays and you are nowhere near as good as he is. If you would honestly make and honor this offer of yours to play winner take all then you are either an idiot or don't care about "small change". If it is the latter then add a couple of zeros, make it $1,200,000 for 1st and $750,000 for 2nd and try telling me you would still be willing. Its one thing if you are talking about a $5 sng where 1st place pays $100, quite another when you are talking about something that means something to you.

| | | | Fink you can appear to exaggerate any point that you want...what difference is it if you were in a $50 tourney for 7 hours and you bubble out...you get nothing.
If I am in a tourney for 7 hours I want the most that I can get out of the tournament...I want to win it and make my effort worthwhile...especially when I have an edge in winning it!...If I lose, then I will settle for nothing!
I can give you an example if you want....how about a freeroll for 7 hours where winner gets $30 and second gets $20...neither is worth it...but I would rather get $50 or nothing then to settle for $25 and feel that I accomplished nothing because no winner was decided!...saying that at least you would get $25 for your 7 hours is a safety niche...if you want a safety niche...get an hourly paid job! | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread
