Default How effective are Poker Shades?

If been looking at this HoldemShades.com add and checking out the site. I'm wondering how good are shades in poker?

Is there anyone who can tell me their experiences with using shades in poker and if its better for them or it wasn't and why?

Well, when you are playing on line it just makes the screen difficult to read! (Sorry, couldn't resist it.)

I will ditto that! Nice one racingdog. I don't know how your vision is there wireddragon but that is the first thing I would tell you to do is think about the lighting in the place you play cards in.

Do a test run. If you got to strain to see some cards your facial muscels will give of a tell. When I played 10 months ago it was easy to catch people that were having problems with seeing through shades.

Best wear a hood or baseball hat to pull over eyes so you keep them in shadows is my best advice. Sorry could not be more helpful.

From what I understand, the shades wireddragon is talking about is the pair advertised at the top of the site. They claim to let 85% more light in than regular sunglasses, while still hiding any tells your eyes may give off.

I haven't bought any myself, so I couldn't help you out. Sorry

I've tried to wear sunglasses while playing a couple of times but they were off and on because I couldn't see the cards very well with them on. Because of that they almost ended up being a tell themselves.

It did seem easier to watch everybody else because they didn't really know you were watching them and it seemed less akward.

I don't believe the average poker player can pick up on any tells that you'll hide with shades but it certainly changes your table image. It's worth trying.

Honestly I don't see the point in shades. If you have a good enough poker face why use them. How do you know if you have a good poker face, simple can you react the same way no matter what is dealt to you? Are you able to keep a straight face? I know one thing I have found is to only look at your hand once, no matter what you have. Also keep any conversations going that may be going on at the time, this help in not giving away any tells (kinda hard at the tables in a casino unless there are people you know around the table). But those are just my views on shades. If I was into them I would invest in the ones advertised here for the reasons that K06mars gave.

well i have found and seen that you can get alot of reads on player who are not wearing them.thats why alot of pros do wear them so you cant see there eyes.
as your eyes tend to dART AROUND WHEN NERVOUS.which is a big tell in poker.
thats like saying please god dont call.
as you can tell alot about how a person is feeling through there eyes as to what kind of hand they have.
i mean sure there are a million tells in poker but that is a big one.
so thats why the shades are worn by so many.
anyway thats my 2 cents on it

I would actually say its about even when it comes to pro's wearing shades from what I see... When ever I bet I just stare @ the community cards, and use my left hand to cover my mouth, seems to work for me. I don't wear shades, simply because its to hard to see through them, so if any one does have info on these shades that would be great.

I tried to wear them once... I felt really stupid so I took them off quickly. It just depends on how good of a liar you are naturally I guess.
