Generally if you have the short stack and go all in pre-flop you will have a greater chance of just getting a couple of loose calls from larger stacks instead of many limpers. It is better to have scared everyone out of the pot and win blinds (you walk away from it) then to risk your aces at 33% in a 9 handed pot and end up going all in anyway on the flop (the pot-odds justify it but if you are in a tourney you can't rebuy). If you get one call from one stack they probably will put you on k-x suited and almost never put you on AA unless this is the first pot you've entered and you are in the short stack position from blinds eating you (not usually the case). This helps you as well as you will likely be up against a medium strength hand with a much higher % against them. In the worst case you will see a medium pocket pair which will be fourish to 1 in your favor.
In fact, there are few situations in which AA does not warrant some sort of raise, you are inviting trouble if not. Just think of the action you get from QQ if you are worried about scaring everyone out. My 2 cents,
