Looks like a good low-budget film. The only 'problem' I can see coming is that they may make it very cheesey. Unless the writer is an actual poker play him/herself, then the actual playing may be very flawed. Never the less, I will still check back there, because a mediocre poker movie is still worth my time.

Default "Freeze Out" written by a Poker Player

I wrote and directed "Freeze Out" and I am a poker player of 5 years.

I'm making every effort to make the depiction of poker as it is played as accurate as possible. However, I have to offer up the caveat: the film revolves primarily around people who don't know how to play very well. The main character knows his stuff and is trying to win all the money because he thinks he's the best player at his game.

So it's through his well informed point of view that we're observing the lunacy of a Dealer's Choice Wild Card No-limit Freeze Out.

There's always the risk of cheesiness when you're making a comedy, I hope I'll be able to dodge that criticism... I think the film is a little like "Rounders" meets "Curb Your Enthusiam"

Thanks for checking out the trailer!

I am very happy to hear that a serious poker player is the director of this a seroius poker player and not some non-player who is trying to cash in on the explosion of poker. I am looking forward to this film, good luck with the filming.

Few questions:

1. How can you go about seeing the movie? Will it be released anywhere near San Diego?
2. How much of the film contains actual poker? Personally, as a poker player and film enthuses, I would love to see a comedy that I can actually relate to as a serious poker player. In a dealers choice game I would assume there would be a ton of interesting hands and situations players would encounter when playing games ranging from STUD to The Procter & Gamble.

Default Freeze Out Additional Information

Principal photography is complete, I have a few scenes I would like to re-shoot... But once the film is complete I'm going to be submitting it to festivals and looking for distribution latet this year. So to answer your question I'm not sure when you'll be able to see it in a theater...

However, I may have some test screenings. If you'd like to see it in a test screening format in Los Angeles later this summer please drop me an e-mail at: mj@silverlakecardclub.com and I'll add you to the list of screenings for people who play poker.

I'm going to test in front of non-players and players and try and strike a good median of poker accuracy vs. funny.

As for how much poker the film contains about 8 distinct hands that are looked at in varying degrees of depth in terms of play and odds (some wild card some straight), some poker history, a discussion of tells, and a few other knick knacks, plus extreme close ups of chips and cards for visual interest.

Thanks for the interest!
