Common Tells

Couple of things I have picked up:

If a three flush flops, people often check their cards if they have one of that suit but cant remember which card it was. Seems a simple thing, but remember your hole cards so that you dont give this tell yourself.

If a person is talking when first checking his cards pre-flop, if he sees rags he wont stop the flow of conversation. If he see something he likes, usually the person will stop briefly to consider his move, before carrying on the conversation.

I find the book to be very good, but I don't agree with everything he trys to teach. It all depends on what kind of player your are. I find myself to be tight aggressive. Brunson I find to be very aggressive, pushing on draws. What I did find usful was being able to read flops better. For example, the double belly buster. Before I read the book I would of never seen it.

One tell I look for all the time in live play is when a player looks at his chips right after he looks at his cards. This is a GREAT tell because it is mostly subconscious. When you look at your hand and see a monster, you immediate reaction is to start planning your strategy and to do that, you need to access your chip situation. Try it. I am not saying this is foolproof, but I swear it works about 80% of the time.


Another one that is almost always on is the "shaking tell". When a player makes a bet and his hands are shaking you should fold most times. This is because he is not shaking because he is nervous to get called, he is shaking because he has a monster and he is trying to control his heart rate. Shaking=Fold.
