Note I am posting this for WBTCZN (Stripesref) who is getting an error trying to set up this thread....
This happened during a home game at my house last night...
We had 13 people playing on two tables. The game is located on the main floor of my house, which has glass doors with a large glass window above the doors. At one point, we heard a loud bang. At first I thought it was something falling from the second floor (we have a catwalk near the large window over the doors). We looked around, but couldn't find anything.
We continued the game, and just a few minutes later as I'm looking at the glass doors I see part of the glass turn pink and heard the same sound we had heard earlier. There were 2 or 3 more of those pink spots with the same splat sound...someone was shooting paint balls at our house!
I opened the front door and as expected, I didn't see anyone. I went back in the house and said that I was calling the police. Some of my guests went out and started looking around.
After calling in the report, I went out too. Some of my guest's cars had been hit, and I had six or seven places on my house that were hit, too.
The ever observant guest known to many of you as "The Zombills" noted the car that was used to attack our property had sped off west. Now, one of the interesting things about the section of the subdivision I live in is the road goes west, eventually turns south, and then east, and then north, and comes back right at my house. There is no other way out. These turkeys HAD to come back by us.
We were determined to keep them trapped until the police arrived. As we started getting ready to set up a road block, a car approached from the south. The people in it weren't the "suspects", but we explained what was going on and they turn their SUV across the road to block it.
Just as that was happening, we saw another vehicle coming from the south. It was slowing down...approaching us VERY tentatively! It came to a stop about 3 houses away from the intersection when the driver saw Zom and my son walking towards them. When Zom and my son started running at them, they jammed it in reverse and started speeding down the street backwards. They eventually wiped out a mailbox in their haste to avoid us.
By this point, we had westbound traffic coming into the area stopped about 4 cars deep. One of the cars was the first police car on the scene. We waved for him to come up and we explained what had just happened. He sped off south towards the suspects. I explained the situation, and the subdivision lay out, to officer #2, who then went west. Cool -- we've got these yo-yos trapped! 2 more police cars arrived and went after the yo-yos.
We were letting traffic in, but still slowing down cars trying to leave. Although there is only one way in and one way out, there are some small deadend side streets where the car could have tried to hide. Sure enough, the yo-yo's approach from the west. Zom, Mark, and some others were standing in the street in front of the car. Mark is a BIG guy -- quite an imposing sight! As we tried to get a look at the driver (tinted windows, of course!) and the license plate, they sped off. Ah, but, we got the license plate number!!!
Not 5 seconds later, one of the police cruiser comes by -- we waved him through...pumping our arms hard in a motion to say, "GO! GO! GO! You about have 'em!!!". Police vehicles 2, 3, and 4 all came by a few seconds later.
Next thing we knew, we heard the police sirens. The chase was on. The yo-yo's didn't get too far. Five minutes later, one of the police officers came back. The car had 5 teenagers in it! We started talking about all of the potential charges that these kids could be facing...vandalism, speeding, evading the police, recklessness, assault (they about ran over Mark as they sped away from us). As we were standing there talking with the officer, reports started pouring in from the subdivision of vehicles and houses that were vandalized.
I asked the officer if they were going to make the "youngsters" come back and clean up my house. He said no, they were going to be arrested. The interesting thing was, when we got up this morning, someone had come and cleaned everything up!
Of course, after the excitement was done a number of my guests commented on how well we had decorated our house for Easter!!!
I can't help but think how terrible those kids' timing was. They picked the night that I had so many people over to pull this stunt. In addition to that, many of the students were not on campus this weekend, so it was a slower night for the police -- allowing them to respond very quickly and in force.
It was hard to get back into the game for a few hands!!!
(Comment by The Zombills: "Never go all-in without the nuts in our subdivision!!!!")
