Default Party Poker is full of maniacs

ive been playing there the last 3 or 4 hours.
Im just a little over what ive started with.

I cant believe the maniacs at the table though - not just one or two. Like 5 or 6 players are just crazy.

They will raise and continue to raise (im playing limit) until the river with anything -and i mean anything. I saw 4 of them raise and raise each other with a pair of kings, 7, 4, and 3 on the board. Yeah you guessed it - someone won with ace high!!!

I played really tight but got beat twice by one of these maniacs who caught a river (im not exaggerating). I nearly busted out from the table but just tightened up

As long as you are very patient and play tight you can win a lot of cash. The 3 or 4 big hands ive won ive pretty much had the nuts while the player(s) i was against had a pair - sometimes middle pair at that. And ive yet to hit a big pair as yet!

I hate these sites for this exact reason. There's just too many fish / maniacs to expect a positive EV on a regular basis. I like a few fish at my table but when you get 7-8 at a 10 seated table it becomes nearly impossible to win. And I hate maniacs all the time, no matter how many there are.

well you basically have to adjust your game accordingly and only play premium hands. But when you do, you can be sure theyll keep calling your raises and give you a good pot.

yeah, my trouble is when they do that, I start to get worried that I've got the best hand or not.

I played against a fish the other night and while I took quite a bt off him, there was only one hand that I can remember. I raised first in with AQs, he was in the SB and just called.

The flop brought an Ace and was a rainbow with no straight draws. He checked, I bet, he called.

The turn and river were blanks, again, he checked on both streets, I bet and he called. I put him on either an Ace with a poor kicker or second pair and played it really badly.

He turned over AA for a set !!! Not once did he raise or even bet out. The thing that really got me was the amount of people saying he had a good hand and played it well !!!!! This was at $3/$6 limit !!! Stupid fishy people.

thats the way i would probably play it i had made a lower set - at the flop anyways
though with 3 aces youd expect to him to at least reraise you at the end. That whole play just doesnt make sense to me if he doesnt reraise you at the end.

really? This is how I'd play it if I'd been him:

preflop: re-raise
flop: try to check call
turn: try to check raise
river: bet out as if you check he'll probably check behind you

The way he played it is one of the reasons he was a fish. In poker you need to limit the amount of hands you play and when you do have a good hand you need to do everything you can to win as much as you can.

Even if I had hit my set and was worried about my opponent having a set of Aces I would be raising to get some information. There's no way, if I hit a set, I should be too worried about someone having a higher set. Doesn't happen enough to worry about. If it does, it's just one of those things and I'll pay him off.

textbook calling station i guess
The reason i play it that way is because i want someone to lead the betting if i flop a middle set and then at the river reraise heavily. The majority of players call at this time (and rightly so because of pot odds) and you get your pot - this works with my friends as if they see me betting heavily they will ocassionally fold but if they lead they wont. However you may be right in saying that this isnt the right way to play - but its what i usually do with my friends and it seems to work...albeit we're all semi-average players (but were getting better!)

I can see you're point. The reason I tend to do it on the turn is because if my opponent likes his hand there's a chance of him re-raising me on the turn and possibly even capping up to the river if I know I've got the nuts. I like to give them as much chance to give me as much money as possible. Sure, people will fold too but most of the time you're going to get the raise called and your bet on the river called too.
