Bad Call on Turn??? After a series of extremely harsh bad beats (or bad misses) this past month, I've decided to join some forum and share my experiences with other players and see if I could be able to learn and understand from their perspective what's been going wrong. Is it due to mistakes I make, or just pure bad luck, or simply that I have to always run across lucky morons!
Anyway, here I was at an Omaha Hi / Low Pot Limit 0.50-1.00$ table. I get AA36 double suited. I wont go into position details as I want you to have a look at the picture of the hand in question for you to judge. I'll just talk about the betting structure:
I bet preflop maximum not to slow play (that cost me before) and 3 guys call. Upon the flop you see, I bet 20$, having in mind three things: a) if anyone raises me right there, I'll fold; b) if I get just calls, then I am might be good for a semi-bluff until turn; c) I might get a player or two out before turn so to minimize draws as afterall my AAs could stick up not to mention if a deuce hits which gives me the nut low.
All 3 players call, so I decide ok I might have to throw away this hand. Then turn brings along the damn 9 of diamonds! Here I was stuck. I am first to bet and I find myself in a bad position: if I check, anyone could make a move on me. If I bet big again, I' could be throwing away money if I miss. In the end I decided I'll bet 20$ and see what happens. 1 guy folds, the other just calls (and is all in) and third caps the pot.
What would any of you have done here? Please note I had a nut flush draw and 2nd best low draw, which obviously this player didnt have. He bet an obvious straight which he just hit on turn and pot was so damn big! There is no pair on board. I sooo desperately wanted to throw away that hand (I have done it a lot before, honest. I am the kind of guy who lays down trips and flushes etc) but, as I said, the pot was so damn big and it was heads up now and there's that small possibilty I could scoop and/or I could still make my low. You can count the outs. Yet despite all that, I wanted to fold, (and would have had it been my first hand or so) but it happend to be late and I was just about to go to bed anyways and so decided I'll risk it. And of course, I missed! AND learned my lesson!
But the question is how would anyone have played that hand? Had the turn not bring the 9 diamond, it was an easy check then fold. 2nd question: did that guy play a good hand preflop when someone has bet maximum? I mean..910JQ for crying out loud in Omaha Hi / Low?
