Stud 8/b (or, stud hi/lo) is played with half the pot being awarded to the best 5 card high hand (as in normal 7 card stud) and the other half being awarded to the best qualifying 5 card low hand (A-5 rules, like in razz). If there is not a qualifying low hand, the whole pot goes to the best high hand.

You can use cards to make your best high and best low hands (so A 2 3 4 5 is considered the best hand, because it is the best low, and also an A-5 straight).

To qualify as a low hand you must have 5 unpaired cards of value 8 or lower (aces count as low)

A2345 (the wheel) is the best low hand. Its only 5 high. A2346 would be the next low, its 6 high with 432A kicker. A3456 would lose to that hand because even though its 6 high, the next highest kicker is a 5 which is higher than the 4 kicker in A2346.

Basically, you arange them in order from highest to lowest, and see who has the lowest high card...If they tie, you go to the next highest kicker in each hand until you find who has a lower one.

It's the best low hand, and it's an A-5 straight which is a very good high hand, so it will usually scoop the whole pot, which is what you want to do.

The stud hi/lo chapter in Supersystem 2 is the only thing I have read, and I've won 5 buy in stud hi/lo tournaments. So that is what I would recomend to you.

There is no chapter on stud hi/lo in supersytem 1. It is only in supersytem 2.

There is a chapter in 1 about 7 card stud (high only) that is not in supersytem 2.
