Why didn't you bet your hand harder on before the first draw and immediately after? If you were trying to sucker him in, great - but 8 high is a good hand, not unbeatable, as I'm sure you are aware. Betting small on the last draw seems like the correct play, as anything bigger won't get a call unless you're beat.

Fault always lies in the same place, my fine babies: with him weak enough to lay blame.

It's a fixed limit game, that is all i could bet.

As for the last draw, a lot of hands will pay me off. 8765 will call, any 9 will probably call (talking themselves in to it because of the size of the pot). But if they fold it's also a good result because they do not learn that I will stand pat with a 8 7 low.
