I have run into a huge number of players lately who cant seem to let go of any pocket pair regardless of the board, regardless of the bets, its crazy. Sorry hon. most of the time, they lose.

I feel ya, he probably thought you had 2 overs and were trying to take the pot down... although 25K wouldnt guarentee you FT, it takes a long time to go from 20 down to 9. I just finished one up, came in 8th. In 6th place (21K) and have KQ in BB and the big stack (110K) moves in in SB with T7. Flop comes TT and I'm out

Default Yep, look at just a couple beats from WSOP

Yep, look at just a couple beats that were televised so far from this year's 2005 WSOP Main Event:

1. Layne Flack calling 6600 with pocket 66 on the button vs the early raiser shortstack who pushed with AA. Flack had the unknown player covered by a ton, and although it was a fairly stiff opening raise at the blind level, Flack could afford to call this guy and did flop a 6 for the set and the win.

2. John Juanda holding QQ vs Paul Darden's AK on the turn the board read A53A (this was not a hand from the featured table but it looked to me that Juanda raised with position) and moved allin on the turn at which time Darden definitely called having Juanda covered by some amount of chips.
RIVER = Q for a sick beat on Darden. dscottr17, this is pretty much exactly the same thing that happened to you, except for the fact the donkey in your game was pushing with 22. That's pretty terrible and I would be ashamed if I were Juanda/your opponent call him Donk22 to pull such a dirty win on the hand, BUT THEN I WOULD FEEL OVERJOYED TO WIN all the chips no matter how I got them. Remember the psychology in your opponents mind he is trying to bully you off the hand there and get you to fold representing a ten for trips. Yes it's sickening that when his ploy didn't work and you called with the best of it, that your opponent still was rewarded with the win. It was a two outer. Heck I was just ousted 13th the other night in Omaha when the guy hit a one outer Q on the river for trips to bust me allin on the sidepot where it was shown that the other guy who busted as the shorter stack in the hand was holding the final Q. But as shown in the televised WSOP, it happens online and in the real-world casino too. I played in the Main Event for the first time this year and did not make it past the first day, although I did play for about 5 hours. I hit trip nines earlier in the day agaisnt an AK. I got my pocket JJ in the big blind really nailed when I had to checkfold on the river to an allin when I was sure he had me beat after the board read 866QK. It sucked that it wasn't my year but I went drawing out on a nut flush draw with overcards and I needed that hand to hit to get chips. Didn't work for me. Overall I was not pleased with my play at WSOP but I take some solice that you can't win them all, as evidenced by several pros that don't make past the first day either such as Negreanu and Brunson. I learned a lot from the experience and believe that my game has steadily improved since July. --gl, looseall
