That's rough and it was a horrible play by Rounder, but in a 4-handed all-in pot, QQ isn't that great. I think if Rounder called the all-in before you, you should definitely fold. But still, all-in with two others and just QQ isn't a great idea. You have to expect that one person at least has one ace, and someone will probably have a king. QQ is a very tough hand to lay down preflop, but maybe this was the right time to lay it down. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your play. I would have almost always done the exact same as you, but in hindsight, it might not have been the best choice to call.

If you call a pot with 2 people already in it then even with aces you cannot expect to win. That doesn't mean that you shouldnt call however. I would need to know buy in level, your reads on the other players etc.

In terms of what people actually had it would seem that you made the right call but you have got to realise that you are probably only about 33-42% likely to win here. In a 4 way pot thats great but you are obviously going to lose a lot in these circumstances. As far as I am considered calling is probably ok but you have to accept if you are going to call that you will probably lose the hand. And if you dont want things to come down to luck folding is legitimate here and i would have done so myself 90% of the time. Against solid opposition you will be up against at least 1 ace and 1 king much of the time and could even be dominated by AA or KK. You are unlikely to be higher than 45% to win the hand and will fairly often find yourself against a higher pp and be a huge dog (20% at best)

As for the guy who won it - he might have reckoned that a lot of the high cards were already used up and he would have 25% or so chance to win the hand - if he is a gambler first and a poker player 2nd (i.e. he welcomes risks rather than trying to avoid them) then his play isn't all that terrible. He had the chips to do it and whilst i would never make such a play it isnt really all that bad.

But I have one key question for you - would you have felt the same if a king or an ace came on the board? As far as you should be conserned it really doesn't matter whether who bet you or with what. These are not relevant factors. The other players skill is irrelevant once the cards are turned over.

Hopefully your luck will improve but you shouldn't really view losing this hand as bad luck (it isnt good luck obviously)

Both of your posts actually make me feel better. What I was upset about the most was the fact that I would have been sitting pretty had it not been for rounder and that river card. Oh well thanks for the input.

Glad you are feeling better about it. I'm going to actually defend rounder on this one. He may be a moron, but he might have been taking a calculated risk. He knew exactly how many chips he was risking on this hand, and he knew exactly how much he could win. A little quick (bad) math shows he was getting almost 3-1 on his bet. Actually about 2.5-1 He may have been thinking you were splitting high cards and thus his chances to win improve. The only tihng he is a HUGE underdog to would be if all of you had overpairs. In his mind he knew what he was risking if he loses he is still in good shape, and he had a good drawing hand against what he put everyone else on. I dont think I would have made that move, but some people find the risk/payoff acceptable. As it turns out, you only had one more Q to make your set, there were only 2 more Aces out there, and 3 Kings. He was still an underdog, but not disgustingly so.

Or he may have been a moron. lol
