Default I almost never slowplay.. but...

PokerStars Game #2578585746: Tournament #12384263, Hold'em No Limit - Level IV (50/100) - 2005/09/14 - 23:53:01 (ET)
Table '12384263 57' Seat #5 is the button
Seat 1: heinze21 (1580 in chips)
Seat 2: cajun53 (1770 in chips)
Seat 3: ka357 (2955 in chips)
Seat 4: curlieman (1695 in chips)
Seat 5: retaehc (2390 in chips)
Seat 6: boddah (4485 in chips)
Seat 7: Swifty Ace (6095 in chips)
Seat 8: grandpajimmy (8550 in chips)
Seat 9: st4life (4435 in chips)
boddah: posts small blind 50
Swifty Ace: posts big blind 100
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to boddah [3h Ah]
grandpajimmy: calls 100
st4life: folds
heinze21: folds
cajun53: calls 100
ka357: folds
curlieman: folds
retaehc: calls 100
boddah: calls 50
Swifty Ace: checks
*** FLOP *** [3s 3d Jh]

Like I said.. I almost never slowplay.. but I figured if I bet too big here, they'd all fold. Plus, with no straight or flush draw, I figured I was fairly safe...

boddah: checks
Swifty Ace: bets 100
grandpajimmy: calls 100
cajun53: calls 100
retaehc: folds
boddah: calls 100
*** TURN *** [3s 3d Jh] [6d]

I checked here with the intention of raising it when it got bet into...

boddah: checks
Swifty Ace: bets 100
grandpajimmy: raises 400 to 500
This made me a little suspicious...
cajun53: folds
boddah: raises 400 to 900
Swifty Ace: folds
grandpajimmy: raises 3400 to 4300

This made me VERY suspicious! At this point, I figured he HAD to either have a 3, or else he had J6, and figured me for jacks and threes. But honestly.. the first thoguht to pop into my head was "Pocket sixes," followed by a sinking feeling in my stomach.

boddah: calls 3385 and is all-in
*** RIVER *** [3s 3d Jh 6d] [Qh]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
boddah: shows [3h Ah] (three of a kind, Threes)
grandpajimmy: shows [6h 6s] (a full house, Sixes full of Threes)
grandpajimmy collected 9570 from pot

I almost always play aggressive and try to win pots outright instead of slowplaying. I'm really not fond of it. And it figures that the one time I use it in this tournament I get burned. On the up side, I suppose my gut reaction is getting better. I just have to learn to follow it.

*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 9570 | Rake 0
Board [3s 3d Jh 6d Qh]
Seat 1: heinze21 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 2: cajun53 folded on the Turn
Seat 3: ka357 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: curlieman folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: retaehc (button) folded on the Flop
Seat 6: boddah (small blind) showed [3h Ah] and lost with three of a kind, Threes
Seat 7: Swifty Ace (big blind) folded on the Turn
Seat 8: grandpajimmy showed [6h 6s] and won (9570) with a full house, Sixes full of Threes
Seat 9: st4life folded before Flop (didn't bet)

Any advice on how I should have or could have done that differently? Or was I just unlucky?

I read the first few lines, saw the flop and said to myself. "Oo watch the FH there." And you thought it too- at least on the turn. Especially at that blind level with that much action and no real over-aggreesiveness, SOMEONE had a potential monster. The only thing you did wrong was not trust your gut at the turn. Wel, that and slow playing those :P I would have gone all in with that set as soon as you found it. Those 6s certainly wouldnt have stayed in at that price.

If the 3s were higher over cards ( say a board like TT4) then the slowplay becomes a better option, but here, trips are not strong enough to slowplay. If someone has a jack you are really getting into dangerous waters....there are still alot of cards that can beat ......Any Jack ( if someone has a jack), any face card will give someone a drawing hand and anyone could easily hit another suited card to give them an opportunity to draw at the flush on the river ( and in the low limits, most will, regardless of the pot or implied odds).....I hate slowplays unless you have the nuts, or you have a close to the nuts and playing against a maniac who is likely to bluff....Stick to your intuition and save the slowplays.
