Default This is Why You Don't Slow Play

I came out betting on the flop for 2 reasons. One, I was last to act and therefor with it checked to me it is possibe, however unlikely, that all would fold to my bet. The other reason was with the ace, if noone had a Jack and that's a big if, I was trying to set up seeing the turn for free. Any problems with this thinking?

Texas Hold'em $0.50-$1 (real money), hand #1,182,980,423
Table Nova Iguacu, 18 Aug 2005 11:39 PM ET

Seat 2: Steve_R_K
Seat 3: CountStvcula
Seat 4: SeXy_NaRuTo
Seat 5: spoon123
Seat 6: rawbizm69
Seat 7: Dannie Zuko
Seat 8: Hunter234234
Seat 9: StarlightCst [ ]
Seat 10: Jcrmoon42
ANTES/BLINDS
CountStvcula posts blind ($0.25), SeXy_NaRuTo posts blind ($0.50).

PRE-FLOP
spoon123 calls $0.50, rawbizm69 calls $0.50, Dannie Zuko folds, Hunter234234 calls $0.50, StarlightCst calls $0.50, Jcrmoon42 folds, Steve_R_K folds, CountStvcula folds, SeXy_NaRuTo checks.

FLOP [board cards ]
SeXy_NaRuTo checks, spoon123 checks, rawbizm69 checks, Hunter234234 folds, StarlightCst bets $0.50, SeXy_NaRuTo calls $0.50, spoon123 calls $0.50, rawbizm69 folds.

TURN [board cards ]
SeXy_NaRuTo checks, spoon123 checks, StarlightCst checks.

I got my ace, but something told me to check here. maybe I felt someone was slowplaying trips, but something told me to check the turn and check/call the river.

RIVER [board cards , , , , ]
SeXy_NaRuTo checks, spoon123 checks, StarlightCst bets $1, SeXy_NaRuTo calls $1, spoon123 folds.

And that turn and river is why you don't slowplay in my opinion. Any raise on the flop and I'm done and gone quickly. If they come out betting the turn I have to think hard about staying since I had a kicker issue to deal with and that was if they did not flop trips. If they had bet this hard from the gate, I would have never won this hand.

SHOWDOWN
StarlightCst shows [ AC,10S ]
SeXy_NaRuTo shows [ 9C,JC ]
StarlightCst wins $5.95.

Good instincs there. Hate to see J9 get beat. I would of played it exactly the same as that guy, he was pretty unlucky to be fair. Only thing i would of done differently is raise pre flop with J9 LOL.

I can see checking that flop, but in limit, you can't slowplay to the river. You have to check raise the turn, even though it probably wouldn't have made you fold your aces. Just a poor play and poor luck on his part, but great luck you you.

Wow that was incredibly bad luck. I probably would have slowplayed that too. He had to know he was way ahead and the chances of being beat were slim. On the other hand it is limit and its harder to get someone out of the hand if a scary card does come on the turn. Im sure the first A probably was a little scary to him and I probably would have bet the turn just to make sure I wasnt up against AA or going to get outdrawn. But with it being limit, Ill bet you might have stayed in.

The plain truth here is that on the flop he was over 99% to beat you, and you got lucky. I dont play limit much, but in no limit with a flop like that I would slowplay all day long.
