Default Call or Raise And If Raise Where?

Texas Hold'em $0.50-$1 (real money), hand #1,027,513,614
Table Valparaiso, 29 Jun 2005 7:12 AM ET

Seat 1: springman1
Seat 2: StarlightCst [ , ]
Seat 3: Fuglem
Seat 4: Gunst5368
Seat 5: 7GrandDown
Seat 6: xx poolshark
Seat 7: Bong_Rocker
Seat 8: rver04
Seat 9: ri0tfor3v3r
Seat 10: tunggung
ANTES/BLINDS
rver04 posts blind ($0.25), ri0tfor3v3r posts blind ($0.50), springman1 posts blind ($0.50).

PRE-FLOP
tunggung calls $0.50, springman1 checks, StarlightCst calls $0.50, Fuglem calls $0.50, Gunst5368 folds, 7GrandDown folds, xx poolshark calls $0.50, Bong_Rocker folds, rver04 bets $0.75, ri0tfor3v3r calls $0.50, tunggung calls $0.50, springman1 calls $0.50, StarlightCst calls $0.50, Fuglem calls $0.50, xx poolshark calls $0.50.

FLOP [board cards ,, ]
rver04 bets $0.50, ri0tfor3v3r calls $0.50, tunggung calls $0.50, springman1 folds, StarlightCst calls $0.50, Fuglem calls $0.50, xx poolshark calls $0.50.

What's the proper way to handle this flop? I've got the nut straight but an obvious flush looming. I simply called. Should I have raised?

TURN [board cards ,,, ]
rver04 bets $1, ri0tfor3v3r calls $1, tunggung calls $1, StarlightCst calls $1, Fuglem calls $1, xx poolshark calls $1.

Same question. Raise or Just Call?

RIVER [board cards ,,,, ]
rver04 checks, ri0tfor3v3r bets $1, tunggung calls $1, StarlightCst bets $2, Fuglem folds, xx poolshark folds, rver04 folds, ri0tfor3v3r calls $1, tunggung calls $1.

No fourth club and the preflop raiser showing weakness. Add to that no raises on the turn I'm figuring no flush and here I raise.

SHOWDOWN
StarlightCst shows [ , ]
ri0tfor3v3r mucks cards
tunggung mucks cards
StarlightCst wins $20.90.

SUMMARY
Dealer: Bong_Rocker
Pot: $22 | Rake: $1.10
springman1 loses $1
StarlightCst bets $4.50, collects $20.90, net $16.40
Fuglem loses $2.50

oh i hate when that happens.

I would have to say raise until another club falls. People chasing flush draws are gonna call regardless though if they dont make it youve got a healthier pot

its tough cos you could be beat at the flop anyways with someone whose flopped the flush

You should have raised on the turn, though a river raise is not that bad of a move. The reason for raising on the turn instead of the flop is simple: more money. The turn and river bets are twice as large as the flop bets. If you raise on the flop, you are assuming that on the turn and river, people will check call to you. If you raise on the turn, people will check call to you on the river. You get that extra 50 cents from each caller. I know there is that flush possibility, and with so many people in the hand, it is pretty scary, but I would still think that no one has the flush if only one person is betting and everyone else is calling. Now if you raise on the turn and the guy betting reraises, he very well might have to flush. Just call his bets from then on.

I only play limit games so you do not have a choice on the size of raise you make.

I think you have to raise on the flop. For 2 reasons.

One, if there is someone on a draw you are giving them infinite odds if it is checked all the way around to get their draw on the turn.

You want to push out the drawers and test the waters for a possible made flush. If you check the flop you might get no info at all and give the made flush a good opportunity for a reraise on the turn if you bet out then.

You might even get a player with a weak flush to think he may be beat.

If you bet out and are only called bet the turn as well.

Get ready to check the river though. Just in case that made flush is slow playing and hoping to get an extra bet out of you.

If there is a bet be prepared to pay the guy off if the made flush is there. Sometimes that is what you end up having to do.

There should be a bet on FLOP, if to only see who is on what. Surely by the turn there should be some betting, and if bet into, you should raise, the last thing that you want is someone catching that club. Just my .02

I would agree with the general consensus, raise, raise raise. I play a lot of limit. You know you have some people that will chase anything. On a hand like this you have to make a choice after the flop. 1) play it tight, checking or calling to limit your losses, or 2) raise and go for the big win. Limit is about making a decision and sticking with it. Mainly becasue you have idiots that will chase anything. You have to judge the table, see if you have any of those guys there. If not, a raise will definately clear out some of the garbage, and give you an idea of where you stand.
