Default A betting tell

Just something that i've picked up that i thought i'd share.

If you raise preflop and get a caller, then out of position the caller bets out (known as a donk bet), you can often be sure they have not hit the board strongly (they will just have a little piece). Often people bet out with second pair/pocket pair to stop you from betting and to find out where they are (continuation bets are standard so their testing you before you bet).

Aslong as the player can lay down a hand, an EV+ move (from my experience) is to shove in a nice big raise with air, or just to call with top pair/strong hands.

Now obviously against very strong players this could be a purposeful bet with a very strong hand, but against your average small stakes player this is usually a bet with second/bottom pair.

I have countlesss HH's of this but heres one that happened literally seconds ago which inspired me to do this thread:

Great advice Jay. I've done this so I know it's true. I've done it to see where I stand. If they come over the top then you can easily get away. The tough one is when they smooth call. Damn I hate those!

Thanks Dinero. I think when they smooth call you have to take a good look at the board and if you still think its a less than top pair hand (which an out of position bet on the flop usually is), then fire another 2/3rds of the pot barrel on the turn. Usually this will work. If they still call then i'l usually give it up by the river but this is rare and i'd say you'll win about 19/20 pots (from my experience) by the turn using this strategy.
