Not necessairly, a middle pair (10's to 8's) was a likely holding (he could have even slowplayed Aces or Kings), and with my weak bet he may have put himself ahead and pushed. AK was also a possibility, another hand that would probably have atleast called the small bet considerng the pot odds. There was not a hand that he could have called my raise with that in no way connected with the board (except AK, but like i said, the small bet and considering the fact he was pretty pot comitted meant he was likely to call my bet anyway). The whole objective behind the flop bet was to not arouse the players suspicion. When i raise preflop, 90% of the time i continuation bet the flop, whatever the texture, I didn't want to do something completly out of the ordinary and very weak (considering how much strength i'd shown preflop, it just didn't fit and any decent player would have picked up on it) He had been on my table the whole game near enough and even seen me caught once or twice after someone check raised me and took the pot. Maybe i am thinking on a too complex level for my oppenents.

It was the latter stage of the tourny which had been running for awhile (alot of the fish had already been weeded out). Judging by his earlier play (he seemed pretty solid), i was very surpirsed to see AJ when all the chips went in. But yes, you make a valid point.

Ofcourse it matters, even the greatest pros in the world would not make that call with the intention of taking down the flop by outplaying their oppenent (i had demonstated considerable strength and had committed a large proportion of my stack). he THOUGHT he was ahead.
In different situations, ofcourse. I myself have called players i considered weak with very marginal hands (that i knew behind) in position because i knew i could outplay them post flop. However, this is VERY situational, not something you would try against someone who had shown immense strength.
HIS play (preflop call) was very bad, I got my money in best, HE got lucky. There is no argument. It's Poker and i'm sure i'l get over it (ready for the next tourny : ) ). Just wanted to have a rant, surely you of all people Fink can appreciate what a frustrating game this can be?
Good luck at the tables
