THF Player of the Year
I have two thoughts on the hand. Not saying I'm right, just my thoughts and I hope someone will discuss it further.

Firstly, I think I may fold UTG here.
After that, I'm probably calling to see a flop as you did.
Great flop, but I'd bet more on the flop if I thought he was drawing.
I think my stack is going in regardless there, so I'd go allin and give him the chance to make a mistake when he calls- or grab the pot as it stands.

Here he gets over 3 to 1 to call his draw. If he hits his flush then we're cursing our luck if we don't improve.

Nice hand though. Nice play on the turn and river and a great pot

Thank you.

The reason I called UTG was because there were 2 short stacks (one was the BB) that would likely piggy back if enough people were in the pot. I wanted to see the flop if it didn't cost me too much. As it turned out it is exactly what happened and luckily a very good turnout for me.

I understand what you are saying about the flop bet. I hate committing my whole stack. I did half and hoped to better my hand or at least not see a straight or flush hit on the turn. I knew I would commit my stack or not after seeing what the turn brought. Quite frankly if a flush or straight hit I would have folded to an all-in. But, I think you are right looking back at it. I had better than half my chips in and the blinds and antes would have taken a fast toll on me.

lol. limp UTG with 12BB then underbet the flop? Really going to fold turn with 2.5BB left ? You know you commit yourself to the hand on the flop since you have odds to call any bad card on turn with hopes of filling up. Then the next hand you don't make people pay to chase draws. Luckily for you they both hit and stacked off when they shouldn't have.

Terrible plays imo.

THF Player of the Year
Why would you say the 2nd hand is a terrible play Fermion?

I think I may of re-raised on the turn but not necessarily. The small bet from Brinki and call from Lucky on the turn doesn't suggest great strength here(or it possibly suggests a made hand, which is fine too)
The players behind are getting great odds to call if theyve hit anything.

How are you playing this hand so differently from CardLovinCat to make your play a good one and her play terrible?

Much of my seemingly passive play was due to very active agressive play by the players most of the game. I could almost count on raises and betting without letting on to a good hand. Maybe greed on my part, but everyone played as they had been much to my benefit.

On the second game the board was too scarey and I didn't want to chase people off. Very little possibility of beating my hand and wanted them to improve theirs.

well obviously the way the table is playing matters, but generally i think it's a bad play and a common mistake. the flop is about as drawy as it gets with a pair on board. J99 two hearts. no one else has a 9. more likely for people to have a draw than a J, also more likely for them to call off bigger bets with a draw than a J.

you slowplay till the riv and they won't call a single bet. you extract more value by stringing them along and have them call bets drawing dead.

of course if 5 people get into the pot and two of them hit their draw and stack off on a paired flop then yea slowplay may be best.

Yeah of course, my mistake, read that wrong
Looking again I still think I'm stepping it up on the flop in the first hand.
If I was sure that an aggressive player would bet behind me then I suppose I could check-raise allin but nahh I'd bet allin here.
