Default Not nice

THF Player of the Year
First game of the day $16 turbo, 2 table. Going well played only 6 hands. I'm 2nd in chips, feeling good, 6 left, 4 paid and I'm aiming for a $108 payout.

I don't really want to get involved with the other big stack but when he min raises when I have AA of course I'm am doing.

I've got used to taking the beats now but felt a bit sick after this one.

Would you bet more preflop?
Would you bet more on the flop?
The turn was a horror card.
Would you fold the river?

Without have ever played a $16 buy in I can't say what the play is like. Either way I think no matter what you you did he may have been married to that hand and probably called you no matter what. So whatever you decided that hand was going to cost you chips.

dunno if you want my advice, but here goes.

raise more preflop instead of minraise. bet on flop is nice (looks like about 3/4 of the pot size) but it kinda commits you to the hand so maybe an all in would be better here.

On river, you're beaten by JQ, diamond draw, set, etc. You really think he's going to bet KQ, KJ here? I know it's hard to fold for such a small bet and with AA, but really should have. He's not calling the flop to bluff you later on b/c you're already committed.

I guess it's a bad beat, but you can't fault you're opponent for how he played the hand.

With a min raise and min reraise preflop he doesn't put you on a AA or KK for that matter. After the flop nothing you did short of an all-in would get him off the hand. An all-in would have you hitting a set to him and that he would have to really think about calling.

A min raise from a big stack late in a tournament raises all kinds of red flags to me. I'm not sure that I believe you played it poorly but in retrospect this is my analysis.

1. A min raise by him to me means big hand. If he didn't want anybody to call he'd bet more.
2. Although your reraise wasn't a "min" raise it wasn't big enough to serve a purpose. A raise that small tells you nothing additional about his hand. He's going to call regardless. Your raises need to get you more information. Otherwise all it's doing is building the pot and giving your opponent better odds on the flop to draw.
3. Your guess is as good as mine whether he'd commit to the draw if you pushed on the flop but he had you covered so I'd say once that flop hit you were doomed.

There's a chance as chip leader this guy would have called an all-in preflop so this hand was probably trouble no matter what. It wouldn't be hard from his position to put you on mid pockets and call with over cards for a race.

Raise 3x his raise is good as he is a big stack preflop, not much to do on the board except folding the river, as you don't beat much, ofcourse you want to just see that he got really lucky. I always call a really small bet on the river just to see it, even though I'm well aware of that I'm beat.

You didn't have much left after that call on the river did you? I would have folded.

THF Player of the Year
ugh Cat that's nasty, thats less nice than not nice.

Been on two days of em. My hand above wasn't a bad one really but some others have been stomach-turners.

It happens, I laugh it off mostly but I think what bothered me about the hand I posted was that it came after a series of bad beats and that I felt so comfortable with 6 left. At least 4 of the opponents of the 6 left were rather poor players in this game and I felt my opponent in that hand was one of them. Maybe that was my downfall.

Thanks for the comments and I agree with them - a bigger raise preflop is a better play in most cases.
I did actually think, from previous plays that it was possible that this player would infact bet the river with a K. I guessed I was beat on the river but with 9 to 1 odds or so can I fold?
