THF Player of the Year
Like you mostly.

There would have to be very specific reasons for me to make a play there.

Early in the tourny with not many chips to spare and 2 overcards, folding was the right move. With two limpers and you in the SB you probably should have raised 3x BB and taken the pot pre-flop. If called with the Q on board you could bet representing AQ to get the caller to fold. Just check down if he calls your bet, fold if he bets out on the turn.

Early on, with small and mid pairs I'm happy to just get the blinds if players are showing weakness. If they raise the usual ammount I'll call to see if I can hit my set and fold them to overbets.

fold preflop you are going to be out of position with a hand that doesnt fair well against 3-4 players

Sometimes you could try to isolate here but all that is likely to happen is that you are going to get more action than you want with a weak hand. If you trip you are not in the position to maximise your winnings and if your 88 holds up as the best hand it will be very hard for you to know about it.

In my experience a bet of 300 in a 400 pot is more likely to be an unpaired hand with at least 1 overcard (usually an ace). I would need a specific read of the individual before i would do anything here. Given it is hard to know what he is bluffing with and the bet of 300 is as likely to have been a slip from 200 or anything else. I would refrain from making a stand here. Even if you are right it will not gain much and risk a lot. If you call you are going to get diffiicult decisions on later streets and if you raise you are in trouble if he has a genuine hand. Overall its borderline whether or not you get into a battle post flop here but I would have folded the hand in the first place.

well taken ben, i see your point. although it is tough to fold 88 in the SB with no raisers
