I think you did fine xtra. At the first hand you could call if you have some good info on him, but if you don't throw it.

If you would have been the initial raiser and you would have bet a decent amount you should call. But you have chips and you can wait for better odds than that to call with AK.

The last hand is hard to get away from. Maybe a larger raise as you say he was aggressive. He makes top pair and him calling there is the right play and he improves his hand even more so the right play by both you and him, maybe a larger raise preflop by you.

THF Player of the Year
I think the AK fold was fine.

On the second hand- well I suppose if you'd played this predictably and by the book you'd of possibly kept your place in the game...

but you know that already, and there's nothing I can say which you don't already know You had a read on him and you chose to play it that way, if it had worked out favourably , it would of been a hand well played.

You can't be too predictable can you, and I guess that applies moreso at the level you are playing here.

I don't know if you necessarily put this down as a mistake. You can't really kick yourself for going with your read and instincts can you.

Letting an opponent bet into you is perfectly fine when he's been playing aggressive - but I think the check raise on the turn should have been a warning. He bet's the flop, ok - he may or may not have something - as you've said, he's been aggressive. A check-raise on the turn, though? I think that indicates a decent improvement in his hand. Maybe he just hit a set of 7s, or 2 pair (as was the case). Either way, at that point I proceed rather cautiously.

congrats on coming 2nd mate - keep up the good work

As for these two hands

ak - pretty much correct if you know he has 55 100% correct. Calling here has little value there is a huge difference between 2nd and 3rd or worst and why risk things when you will get better oppertunities later. Calling with ak can be ok but only when holdings like aq, qk etc are probable.

As for the second hand this one is tough as I would need to know much more about reads etc. As a general rule I dont like to put too much chips in a pot like that from the turn and would have tried to keep things small after he shows strength, 2 pair or trips is quite likely. That said he could have a wide range of jx which would make your play 100% correct.

So right to fold ak
the hand that knocked you out is much harder to assess its a pretty close call. I think you played it ok but I dont like getting that involved in a hand with only an over pair and sign of strengh and improved strength from your opponent. Still VVV hard to fold KK in HU when no ace or flush on board
