I have a fairly decent read on this guy. He can be a little loose but tends to bet huge when he has a good hand (2 pair etc) and otherwise doesnt do anything too stupid.

Without my reads on him to suggest that he cannot have anything too strong (he hasnt made the bet he usually makes) I make my bet on the river as about the high end of what he would call with ak. Without this degree of reads I would not want to tangle with a chip leader to this degree as I could be against trips etc. Against other opponents I would check and wait for him maybe induce a bluff, maybe get the info to fold to a big hand. Overall I just think this is one of those that whilst the turn was reached it was hard to escape without taking a big hit.

In retrospect (and from future hands) it was clear that he had (unusually) deviated from his standard play to adapt to my table image. A particular run of cards had led me to appear to play in a way different from what I actually do. This was combined with a lot of opponents who were easy to fold out of pots. Had I done what I sometimes do and shown my hands a couple of times then I am sure I would have been seen by this guy in a different light and he would not have adapted his play in the same way. Given 2 pair is pretty hard to fold (on those cards) I am not 100% sure it would have made a difference but I think there was a moderate case for showing some of my (strong) hands as this would have counteracted slightly from the loose aggressive image I was portraying as a result of some good cards and good oppertunities for bluffs.

Still a tough one - i ended up finishing 11th out of the real money. Only a $4 game but if not 100% happy with my play I tend to drop stakes a bit till i correct my leaks. Got a bit to go before I return to normal stakes I think, made 3 bad blunders (counting this hand) although generally played quite well.
