Had one similar yesterday. A marginal gutshot call, when I just knew the straight would scoop me a massive pot (I knew at least one of the two players had hit a set and would pay me off ) I folded and of course the next card brings my straight.
In that instance I do think I was wrong to fold and should of taken the implied odds.
In the right circumstances and at the right table, I don't think there's too much wrong in sneaking in there with your donk hands just every now and again. You don't have odds but you have a stack well capabale of withstanding a few deceptive stabs. The implied odds look good if you hit.
