it's also possible he was trying to play the "stand pat" bluff. I do this on occasion playing both draw games. He checks and stands pat, is ready to check-raise any betters, but he sees he is beat to the raise by kev299. At this point, he figures kev has a good hand and won't let it go, so he just lets go of it.
