THF Player of the Year
Nice one Sonny. I don't like his call much ( bet you did lol) I suppose he had the stack to call.

I hit a nice boat early on which was also a bit difficult to play and halved the pot.
Was feeling fine and then I had a lapse. Was playing in the moneymaker tourney also and misread the omaha table. Thought I'd hit a straight and the low. I got away with half pot on my allin. Anyway, then I played the hand in the first post. Not a great half hour lol

just dealing with 7's hand

OK first off he hit a better FH on the turn (kkk44) so the river is not relevant - secondly there is actually a strong arguement for folding this hand on the flop or failing that to raise here all in (or as near as the pot will allow). Whilst your hand is strong it is vulnerable to a better low developing and it is vulnerable to a flush (diams)

Given that you have very probably the best high you might be willing to take the risk that your 444xx will hold the high and noone will get a better low (you have something of a low draw. Whilst its true you have a straight draw this draw is more likely to lead to a split than anything else and a split in which a) someone will get a better low b) you will split the high. So its not that great a scenario.

Still you cannot always wait for dream holdings to play and in a 1$ game the chance of lots of other holdings are quite possible but I wouldnt let someone with a2 or 2 diams getting the odds that you are giving them to stay in the pot.

On the turn alarm bells should be ringing. In texas holdem there is the expession jones t uses "there is always an Ace" whilst this isnt always true its a good general rule. Well in Omaha "there is always an overfull". More money is lost to an over full house than pretty much any other holiding in the game.

You had a lot in the pot and it is hard to get away here but even if you think you are only up against kxxx thats still possibly a low to half the pot and 9 cards to give a better FH so it would be brave to do anything but fold here. Still its a 1$ tourney and your opponents could have anything so there is some merit in not treating them the way you would in a higher stakes tourney.

Folding on the river saved you an important 300 chips - so whilst many might say you were "pot committed" here there is an arguement that you did the right thing here.

Not sure (in fact I am sure I dont ) I like the call in the turn even if you are not going to fold here - given that there are flush and low draws abounding and a call will leave you pot committed pretty much to me this is an all in or fold situation - you dont want to suck a call in for more value here you want to do as much as you can to isolate.

In short whilst I wouldnt have played it the same way you did not play it badly. On balance calling on the flop is defensible although for the reasons i have given it is possibly the worst decision of your options (fold vvv close behind though and reraise just being the risky but percentage play). You did well to fold on the river but in my view it was all in or fold on the turn and fold would be definately the play at a higher level and possibly be the best play here.

THF Player of the Year
I almost wrote in my first post that my starting hand wasnt great. I thought it wasnt bad and worth a look and it cost me. Is this an immediate preflop fold for you?

I'm still learning the Omaha HL PL Getting better but I really need to do some reading.

The rest of the hand I felt under pressure. Rightly of wrongly I'm thinking this:

Dealt to 7letters [3c 4h 4d 5c] Ok it aint bad , might be worth a look, only two suited, but I'm probably against a higher flush anyway if it comes, they go together, straight draws, trips, full house, and possibly a nice low hand- one caller and 4 to play - I'll call and see a flop cheaply hopefully
gobluejrm: folds
dorightk2: folds
ballardcreek: calls 50
angler767: folds
7letters: calls 50
Michi111: calls 50
Veritas316: calls 50
Grampapa: calls 25
mitchsmad: checks
*** FLOP *** [Kd 4s 6d]
Grampapa: checks
mitchsmad: bets 300
ballardcreek: folds
dorightk2 has returned
7letters: calls 300 ( ok I've hit a set of 4's and a straight draw, I could raise here and see what they do, but I'm worried about carrying along a diamonds draw. I'm possibly behind to 6-6, and K-K. I don't want to fold here but a raise seems risky. I'll call.
Michi111: calls 300 ( Another caller,Ok, I'm fine with that.. I think
Veritas316: folds
Grampapa: folds
*** TURN *** [Kd 4s 6d] [Ks] (Damn, bad card. Ok, so someone playing KK is less likely now, The flush draw is now good for me but we'll probably lose it unless there's some loose player. I'm worried about a K6 and less likely a K4 nand 6-6. I have a boat and I still have a chance of a winning low hand. Again I'm thinking about a raise but it now seems even more risky)
mitchsmad: bets 300
7letters: calls 300
Michi111: raises 500 to 800 (Not good)
mitchsmad: calls 500
7letters: calls 500 ( Damn. Do I push my stack? Do I fold?I might still be ahead? Probably not. Dangerous now. I'm really hoping for a good river card to half the pot now)
*** RIVER *** [Kd 4s 6d Ks] [Kh] (Ugh)
mitchsmad: checks
7letters: checks
Michi111: bets 300
mitchsmad: folds
7letters: folds (I'm beat)
Michi111 collected 3600 from pot
Michi111: shows [4c 3s Tc Kc] (HI: four of a kind, Kings)

Well I think that's about the jist of it.

Thanks very for your detailed analysis Ben. I shall have another careful read of it and take it all the info in at an earlier hour. Long way to go with this game for me but I'm travelling the right way I think. Some hands still lose me and while I can recognise a good starting hand some of the mediocre ones that you might want to play cheaply are a little foggier. I'm also OK when counting my own outs, I can put opponents on hands, what I can't really do in the heat of the moment is count the outs for the hands I'm putting opponents on. My Omaha head doesnt work that quickly yet.

Cheers
