Default Stupid?

THF Player of the Year
I was annoyed at myself for doing this. I think I needed a spade in my hand to call. My chips were getting low. I to-and-fro'd with the time bank running down and eventually went for a call. Should I forget it? learn from it and fold next time? chastise myself in a perverted way? You decide please.

This is one of them instances that TP/TK is just no good, as you said you needed at least one spade to of been calling that.....your raise pre-flop was okay I would be raising to 1200/1600 there so your in the middle.....1200 to the big stack on the SB, not sure if I would call that raise with suited connectors, obviously he likes them a lot or he put you on a steal, as for you calling the all-in you know yourself that it was not a great call by you.....so lesson already learned IMO.

As for his all-in it is exactly the same move I would make in that position, he wanted you off the pot in case you did hold a spade as the likely hood of it being higher than both of his is quite high if your were holding one (with your pre-flop raise), the chances of you holding 2 spades is highly reduced as he already holds 2 and there's 3 on the board, so his all-in IMO was for no more than to get you off the pot and to protect his weak flush.

Pre flop play by him, questionable, post flop play by him, understandable, end result for you disastrous

Yeh i'll go along with most of that. I purposely raised a little lower this hand. I hadnt hit many too good hands up to this point and was playing tight, as a result most of my 4x raises and my preflop re-raises had won me just blinds at this table. Maybe if I'd raised 4 or 5 times I'd be at the table for the next hand. I wanted to see a flop with this one so I liked his call. He had a bigger stack so I can't be too upset with his call really.

Part of me felt he'd hit nothing and that his instant bet was predetermined nomatter what the flop brought. Part of me knew he probably had hit something and that I should fold and go from there. Just one of those times I suppose when your gut rules you and you're wrong. Silly of me I think.

Personally I'd have pushed all-in preflop. You have 5075 and with blinds and antes it's 800 a round so your M is just under 6.5.It's actually worse than that as your table is 8 handed so you effective M is actually 5. At present your stack is enough to hurt any of the other stacks at your table but in two hands you're the BB and you'll have lost another 500 chips and even more desparate.

Push all-in preflop and position doesn't matter, you're in dire straights here and have a great hand. I doubt villain would have called a 5k bet preflop.

Thanks for the reply Mattastic,

I can see where you're coming from. I suppose I might of been disappointed also if I go allin preflop and come up against pockets and lose . With regards to stack sizes and blinds I do see what you mean. Point taken.

With your stack you're looking to double up and AK is the perfect oppurtunity. You're only in big trouble against Aces (9 or 13/1 I think), in toruble against KK (about 3/1) and a coinflip against any other pair.

Play to win, not to cash!

Yep that's also a good point. I would have to admit I was hoping to cash. I think there were about 450 entries, 70 left in and around 30 paid, or similar. So my eye is on the payouts. You're right.

Cheers

As you said, I would've raised more preflop. The smallish raise allowed the chip leader to sneak through with suited connectors, and bust you. The blinds/antes were also big enough that a steal would actually be OK (25x8 + 200SB + 400BB + 400 menyus call) = 1200

As for post-flop, I would've called too. He was the chip leader, and no doubt hoping to bet you off it. I would've thought he had a high spade and was semi-bluffing you. I'd have called with a short stack.

Just not a very pleasant hand, TBH.

Thanks Scotia,

To make this clear to myself:
Quote:

Can you explain that again. I'm not familar with that menyus word either.

*edit Durrr! Menyus is the first caller! I thought that was some foreign word or a mathematical term I hadnt heard of lol
