I'm not sure if I've ever actaully posted winning hands before, not often anyway-I'm usually asking for opinions on my losing ones.

3 hands into a SnG.This first hand turned out well for me but it's a hand I felt I could of played differently.I had reasons for playing it the way I did. Any views are welcome.

I did put him on an A.
It's a low buyin and after the hand, saw he was playing an A and was suprised I didnt get re-raised on the river really.

Good start to the tourney, some chips to work with and about 5 hands later, I play this one, again it's one I could of played differently. I take the hand but felt I could of lost chips just as easily.
Views on the hand again appreciated.

the 1st hand i would have raised preflop, and raised more on the flop. the reason for the preflop raise is that you want to push out ppl limping with mediocre hands. cuse you dont want someone catching a big hand with weak cards. and the raise on the flop is to push out any drawers. if someone has 99, even though there is 2 overcards, 20 is def low enough to call and if they hit, your gonna looooose a some chips. just my opinion, you still got some chips so nice job

Yep, fair point Rw. I expected someone to bring that up.

I was infact thinking of raising. I might raise normally with hands from AK upwards from that position because of the reasons you mentioned. I might also raise with lesser hands like JQs, JTs etc (and also smaller connected cards or.. well, anything if I'm representing a big hand) I slow played my AQ here, which ok, is a good hand but not great. It's possible I'm already behind to pockets or AK and I don't want to throw away chips so early.

At these levels you often see early allins. There was already a few people in the pot. A 4x raise here may narrow the field but may also mean I have to fold to a re-raise and lose 80 chips. I think it's a hand where I can see the flop for 20 chips and hope to hit something.

I have a good hand but it's AQ, not a premium, it's the very begining of a tourney and I don't want to get over aggressive with just an AQ.

Well that's how I saw it preflop, any further opinions on these hands appreciated

On the first hand, personally I would have raised it preflop, but I can definitely see the limp as a plausible play. I'm not a fan of the call on the flop though, 20 is waaaaaaay too small of a bet to risk the slow play. The fact is, you could be getting slowplayed by a set! Raise it up to 150 or so, the donks will still call with their A-rag, and your forcing the flush chaser to pay more. I like your betting on the turn and river.

Second hand - I'm liking how you played this one. Again, I will never say calling a min-bet so early in the game is a good move. They could be betting a draw, or they could be really weak. You raised him up, put the two to the test, and forced them to fold their bottom pair or missed draw, whatever it is they had. Nice one.

Cheers for the reply KMars, Yep I think the call on the flop is the weakest part of my play here...after the betting pattern, two checks and one minimum bet I wasnt thinking I was up against a set...I'd of re-raised there to a bet...but I think I'm ahead

.. just playing a tourney and I'll get back to you on that..

So back to that other hand at the start of the thread. Yeh.. as I was saying... I can understand your views on the call to a minimum bet. I was posting to ask for opinions and I'll take it all on board. I think your idea of making a resonable bet there is a stronger play and buys some info.

My thoughts were that I didnt think anyone was slow playing a set. If I faced a big raise I can get away cheaply. If I face a smaller raise I'm prepared to re-raise there. If they come over the top, I've a decision to make but I can get away cheap if I choose to.

So many players at lower levels seem to want to play Ax and when they hit will not bet them and I'm hoping to pick up one of these. Surely with all the preflop callers one of them is playing an A of sorts. I feel that with a set present or an AK or another 2 pair, I'd of seen some betting.

I think I'm ahead, it's cheap, it's early and I think I can afford to let another card come. I don't want to see a heart or the board pair of course but I can play that as it comes and again get away cheaply if I need to.

Quote:
ARTINAMERICA - Calls $20
*** TURN *** [Qs 4c As] [9c]
ARTINAMERICA - Checks
I'm not really considering artinamerica a threat after that. The hand plays out and my real suprise is that I did expect Ax to raise me on the river.

Any further opinions on the first hand in the thread are welcome. I just wanted to get some views on my thinking here. Like I said I could of played this hand differently but do you think my play was poor or weak here.

Just seems important to me to get some feedback on this one

Thanks Scotia, this is the kind of input I want but it's possible you read my post in a way that I didnt intend it to be read. My fault. In this particular hand I decided not raise my AQ and was asking for feedback on the decisions I made.
