a bad bluff attempt

I am a strong believer that a key part to a bluff is how the other player will act if your reads of their cards are correct.

I would have put 100$ on him having kqos when i made my bet on the turn. This is the kind of play that would work against many players but it was not the correct play to make against someone who had shown themselves to be slightly passive in previous hands (not seen too much with him though). Against many players the assumption that a flush had been caught would have caused a fold. I had seen 10% of flops and had only been shown to have strong hands post flop when my bets had been called.

Whilst the bluff was an obvious play it was the wrong opponent to play it against. GRRR

The only way i see most people folding there is if u put them all-in. He had 2X the chips u had and may have gotten the impression u were trying to bluff him with a big bet. If u had the flush u would have tried to milk him instead of pushing all-in.
Very risky call IMO though.

Not all the time. A good number of players would check their turned flush, or if they did bet, it would be rather small. I know this is not always the play that is made, but it's quite possible that was his thinking, you were betting to keep out the 4 card flush. Why he would call with only KQ though is beyond me, I normally would put you on at the very least TPTK...

I agree. A more astute player would have taking everything into consideration and laid it down. He didnt even have a club to draw to or even the best kicker with his King. But like you said, "not seen too much of him though" so you can only blame yourself for that one.

think the problem was more his passivity than my lack of info for reads. This is the sort of play that 2 hours into a MTT i would consider making against someone i had zero reads on - then it wouldnt be 100% a bluff though.

Realistically i should fold on the flop. I check initially for several reasons - 1) is to get added value from the hand and two is to get added information. It didnt strike me as a flop in which i needed to protect a hand. As soon as he bets my thought process is - ok he looks strong - without a club i would have to fold here and the call was marginal but given my reads it serves little purpose.

I had only really become conviced he had kq after i had seen the turn but te read was formulating whilst i clicked call. If i had jsut paused a little longer and thought i might have just folded on the flop.
