value bet. you would've gotten at least 10$ paid off there if not more since he had two pair.

Absolutely. You raised 4 times the pot... you jsut played two, two slow. Give him a moderate re-raise on the turn. Bet 10 or 15 on the flop. Make it reasonable to call, instead of scaring off anything and everything.... scaring off everything except higher trips, that is.

I'm torn on the bet, part of me wants to say it was the right thing to do actually. I have been doing much the same thing recently in rings and it has been great. For my exemple, assume you have the hand won. If you find yourself in that situation five times, make five $10 value bets and get called all five times you have still made less than you would have if you got only one caller out of five all ins. Remember, this is online poker... many of the people you play against don't understand all aspects of the game and so many of them would refuse to lay down their 2 pair (hell its pokerstars, they may not even lay down top pair) even if they thought they might be beat. I would guesstimate that at a typical PokerStars .25/.50 NL table, your all in with a set vs 2 pair would be called 2 out of 5 times for an estimated profit of $103.50 vs $50 on $10 value bets.

If you had just played this aggresively throughout you probably would have gotten both yours and his stack all in by the river.

I couldnt agree with u more Fink. Since assuming this new strategy a couple of months ago, my BR has been growing steadily. If i know im not going to get a lot from a guy in a certain hand, going all-in on a small pot is gonna set him up for another all-in later. If u go all-in like that ppl get frustrated and start calling u a noob and whatnot and most likely will call ur next one even with just top pair.
As far as this hand i doubt the guy had 2 pair. I personally put him on a JJ or QQ, so i was almost positive i couldnt get anything else from him.

Of course there is the part about you not having to show your cards there too. I'll do that same thing because I don't want to show the hand.

Just keeps them guessing.

very good point Ray, its certainly to your advantage that the opposition doesnt know how you play a flopped set

pushing on the river like this can also sometimes appear to be a bluff at a missed draw, and can often recieve a call better than a value bet does...

I see your guys points about "showing a bluff" but if your up against a decent player he probably won't go for it unless he's got a strong hand.

Think about it, he had two pair and still laid his hand down without any flushes or straights possible. (Except for the 810 which was unlikely).

Being out of position made it even worse, if you were after him and he made a decently strong bet you could've bluffed because then he'd be pot commited anyway.

In this situation I'd either

A) Make a really small bet showing weakness, let him maybe pop in a raise. (Depending on my read of the opponent). Hell I might even check if I REALLY know my opponent, since he had two pair there he definatley would have bet out.

Think about it, if your in his shoes. This guy bet the flop, bet the turn, and then checked? Maybe he was on some kind of draw or had a 9 that he thinks is no good now. This guy definatley would've put in a bet with two pair.

B) Make a value bet, about 7-8$ here. Little less, little more depending on where you think he's at.
