Somebody said it elsewhere, but the way to turn the main event back into a true championship, instead of the lottery it is becoming, is to make it a HORSE tourney. Having to be good at 5 different games is surely the stuff of champions, and it is also a way to minimise unworthies getting lucky. Any one agree/disagree/couldn't give a ....?

I mean, take the reigning champ. Did you see what happened when he was faced with a "real quality in every seat" table in the WSOP TOC? He was made to look really ordinary.

i did see the tournament of champions...i would have to disagree, he played well and outlasted a few of the seasoned pro's like chip reese and daniel negreanu. i'm not sure if hes the best poker player in the world but he can hang with the pro's theres no doubt about that...
As for making the main event a HORSE tourney, i couldnt agree more...getting kind of sick of seeing great stud and omaha players not getting the credit they deserve, the only way to find a true poker champion is to have the main even a HORSE tourney. maybe they could have the first day a hold 'em game then next omaha etc. it would be interesting to see how the no namers would cope with that. after all, poker isn't just hold 'em its all forms of the game, why is our current world champion only good at hold 'em and not an all round champion

It needs to stay Hold'em only.
There are separate tourneys for the other games.
They just aren't as popular.

No one said it was a popularity contest.
It's just that by being more popular, more people play the tourneys and so it has the biggest payout. Therefore it gets even more attention. And the circle goes around.
I don't think you have to be good at all the various games of poker to be a true champion.
