| | | | make sure you have atleast 3-6 months in living expenses...this covers you should you hit a downswing so you can cover rent etc..
Also, try to get to a point where beats just don't affect you...obv much easier said than done but if you can sigh, laugh, or whatever, for a second and then be back on your A game you'll see your win rate massively improve.
Also set a schedule and try and stick to it, high volume is vital.
look after your personal life, make sure your eating well and working out etc.. | |

| | | | The nice thing about living in New Jersey is you're never living too far away from a game.
The bad thing about living in New Jersey is you're never living too far away from a game.
Cash games I believe pro's go for a bankroll of 20 buy-ins (roughly $4-5k for $1-2 games), I would stick with your studies (whichever college it may be) and making the occasional trip to Atlantic City (or, if you know of them, NYC underground clubs), but ONLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.
The biggest mistake ANYONE can make when entering a poker game is playing in stakes they can't afford to lose. Make out a budget of funds you can afford to lose gambling, and enjoy youself when you do play poker - even if you do have the edge over the other players, there is always the element of luck, and if you can't have fun gambling why bother even take part?

| | | | Get your degree. Play part time. Never ever take what you can't afford to lose in the short term or long term.
When you sit at a poker table, you better make the right play, and not the "I don't want to lose $XXX" play.
After a hand where you win or lose, think about what could have been done better - too often people are just happy or pissed off, but they don't break the hands down appropriately. Did you lose the max, did you make a mistake, did you win the max, did you lose the minimum, should you have even played, was he a cannonball so I shouldn't have bluffed, was he on tilt so I shouldn't have done that, was he embarrassed by something else so should I have raised, is he playing over his head based on his comments and typical play so I should have raised him out of the hand, why would he possibly have had that hand based on the action - did I make a big mistake?
Notice all of those questions revolve around you, not him or her. He or she is not important in poker (meaning he/she should've done this...), consistent thought is.

| | | | Poker Part time living? It is very important to first decide whether you are really concerned about making a living from online gambling or not. Then you will have to make planning to make the best use of your funds while playing. | |

| | | | If you are a new poker player then you should work on your basics.... | |

| | | | I think that there are easier ways of making an easy living. Much depends though on your experience and ability with poker. I have found it useful to be able to rely on my poker ability when needed to earn extra money but there are other ways online and off that are worth considering too. | |
