Default Pocket Aces....

Situation-I'm in the top 300 in chips in a Pokerstars Freeroll when I pick up pocket aces on the button. Villain has been a pre-flop raising maniac. He puts in 5 times the big blind, and since he is a player who is absolutely nuts, I decide to ship it all in. Despite his underpar play, he has me covered by about a thousand chips, so he calls. He flips over ace 4 offsuit, so I'm pretty happy at this point. Flop is 2, 8, 9. Perfect flop for me. Turn as I'm sure you guys already know is a 4. I don't think I have to say what happened on the river. Even though it was just a freeroll, I was pretty mad. I mean runner runner 3 outer for a win. It was absolutely disgusting. Oh and by the way, if the aces would have held up I would have been in at least the top 50 in chips. Just a little bit of my bitching...

In my opinion your mistake was going all in with pocket aces before the flop when he has you covered. I do believe the right play there would have been to call and see a "cheap" flop. you still would have been able to bail and fight agan some other time.

I do agree that it is too bad you lost, but maybe next time you will take advantage of the "call/fold" button and maybe get him with a better hand.

Im sorry but you're an idiot. He got his chips in with the best hand and got called by a hand he had dominated. Why would he want to see a "cheap flop" if he has the best hand? His opponent is the one who wants to see a "cheap flop" because he has a crappy marginal hand, that's when you want to see a "cheap flop". And how exactly is he gonna lay down aces on a 289 flop??? His play is perfect. The only reason you made this stupid comment is because he lost. Stop thinking about results and look at the percentages man.

AA vs A4 off the top of my head is like 92-94% favourite..something like that...apart from having someone drawing dead, thats the most dominant situation in poker you can be in....why would you let him miss the flop and lose all that equity?? if you can get someone to put all their chips in the middle with only 8% to win then you should be very very happy...

your post is extremely RESULTS ORIENTATED and in the long run you lose alot of equity by just flatting pre with aces...you dont want to see a cheap flop, you want to get as much money in preflop as possible...

I don't think the top 300 in a freeroll on PS pays SQUAT, so you push with that hand. Depending on what your up against, it will win 80%, of the time, so go for it. If its bubble time thats different, but any other time I'm trying to double up there. You played it right!

Similar things happened to me several times. Though it is ok to go all in with AA, I often let the moment decide and fold. In freerolls I'd never fold AA but in moneyplay ?
You can see those maniacs with lots of luck anytime at PS and that's really disgusting.

Folding AA preflop..unless your in a satelite, or a very very rare sit n go/MTT scenario (e.g. you have 1000 in chips, some other guy has 50 in chips and the chip leader has 30,000 in chips..and the chip leader shoves all in..then you should fold (because the equity gained by moving up to 2nd in payouts is much greater than doubling up) folding is absoluteley terrible...you and Marco are advertising a very "scared" style of poker....which is a very weak way to play

in 99.9% of circumstances you should be doing everything you can to get all in preflop with aces...whether it be in a freeroll or a 100/200 NL cash game...

It's not that I'm too scared but it shows that such donkeys most of the time eliminate each other. So I tend to avoid them (if my stack allows).
