Why do I bother with freerolls? I have cashed out all but 500$ or so of my bankroll as I have been out of work for a bit (between jobs) and am only just starting to be earning $$$ again. After tilting in a 10$ MTT this morning after a badish beat I decided not to play much tonight. I played a 5$ turbo and got sucked out aqs v qjs and a 1$ ultra turbo just to see what it was like but the blinds go up so fast this is for gamblers only.
I also played a freeroll on UB to some prize thats apparently worth 4k$ holiday in bahamas with poker training and a freeroll into a WSOP event. Anyway from a field of 4k I managed to get into the top 50 for entry to the final. I played well, did little wrong and had loads of folks to terrilby stupid things that gave me all their chips. Anyway I stayed up 2 hours later than i would have done finishing the tourney and for what?
I suspect there will be 2000 entries into the tourney. Thats 2000 entries for a prize purportedly worth 4k. I dont know if I would even get flights with the package being from the UK ... Anyway when you look at it thats 2 hours of sleep missing for 2$ which is really rubbish. I might not even bother playing in the final.
This is why when I am avoiding $$ games because I might be tilting and want to play poker I normally play freeplay. That way if it gets late, you get bored or you get tired then you can leave without feeling you are missing something that is only worth 2$.
I am not belittling freerolls here. Loads of sites have great freerolls where you can win real $$. However why does anyone play in the ones that are satelites to tiny prizes. take the ones on stars overcome 10k in opponents to get a freeroll into a tourney worth 1$ to enter. True there is much more to poker than the $$ won, there is the competition, the pride all that sort of stuff but as far as I see it it is far better to go for freerolls where you could actually win something worthwhile, whether its 10$ to develop a bankroll from or be in a competition with 500$ added and "only" 1000 entrants.
I do enjoy tourneys with non money prizes. I wish there were more that were actually buy ins so as $$ tourney players could get the fun of the different prizes without the slog of a few freerolls where you need to overcome 1000s of players.
RANT (against myself for staying up too late playing a freeroll that should be seen as a freeplay event because the immediate prize has such a low $$ value) over |
