Less is not More

I really loved the way the gold cards were setup for series one.

In fact all of the cards I have are from series one. I enjoy playing in the gold card buyin tournaments but now my card collection is getting thin. As for the value Increasing I am not so sure about that yet. Right now the Reward is $5 for five 3d gold cards. No thanks, don't have that many and will just save them hoping for another buyin tournament. The tournaments are the Value for me.

That is why everyone is griping about the series 2 gold cards. No one is getting them. It has taken me around an hour to read this thread. All this time I have been at a NL .10/.20 Omaha Hi/Lo table with the average pot $2 up to $20 and still no gold card has shown for anyone. BTW, are the gold cards available on the Omaha tables? There is no Extra incentive to play. It is just like any other site to me. There is no anticipation, no excitement that something Extra might happen. That is what made the Series one Fun. Everyone would speculate on what would show next and to who? Some would stick around to play just because they believed the next gold card would be there. It made it Interesting to play.

I understand what you mean about the player base that the others might not. Now you Do have a player base so the gold cards are not as necessary. I understand it. Why give out an incentive when you don't need to?

That is what concerns me about the Series 2 cards. I will hold onto my Series 1 cards like Gold for the tournament buyins. But what happens when the Series 2 cards are the buyins and I don't have any? Will I be Happy about it and want to play at Cake? For now I am not sure. For now I will enjoy the Series 1 cards that I have and make the most out of them, and my gold chips. But the Bonus that the gold cards brought to the game is gone and along with everyone else I miss it.

Continued Success with the site!
I am looking forward to the changes but it takes a lot of patience.
Have a Wonderful Week!

No 'Ching'

A little over 2 hours at NL HiLo, average pot $6, was $10 the first hour, and no 'Ching' of a gold card. Not sure if the GCs are given out at Omaha tables though? Finally had too many games start, I guess, and the site disconnected me. It would have been more interesting had some GCs popped up now and then. Was going to keep playing until a GC did popup but with the disconnect and other tourneys going I just closed it.

Questions?
Are the gold cards given out at the Omaha tables also?
Is there a way of knowing a GC has been given out if I am not watching?

Have a Wonderful Week!

Did see a GC on Omaha

So that question is answered. Another 2 hours at the NL Hi/Lo and a GC popped up, but went to the player seated Next to me, Ugh lol

So now at least I have seen one

Hopefully can get the little 'Ching' to come my way eventually

Good Luck and Good Games Everyone!

I have another question for Doug. THF was one of the 1st in with Cake, when they were getting up and running it wasn't abnormal for 50% of the players on the site to be from this forum. Now that they are bigger they offer countless other forums 33% rakeback to all members who sign up through their forums... has anything remotely like this been offered to those of us who assisted in getting them up and running?

THF No Limit Champion
I was one of those "early players" at cake. It's true that most of the time there were only 3 or 4 ring games running and people would come to the ring game begging us to join there $2 sng. We only need 1 more to start... pleeeeeeeease help us out. I actually made some good money at cake over a period of a couple months but for whatever reason I stopped going there. Then the other day I got a e-mail about there birthday specials that were running so I went back for a look. Used one of my gold chips ( I have 30 or so) to play in a 2k freeroll and took home $96 for 5th place. Soooo I might just give them another chance if these opportunities continue.

Actually now that you mention it, I do recall that. I also recall one of the main reasons that Cake decided to make that change. ( adding multipliers to the different levels of blinds )

It was because myself and a few other THF members voiced our concern at the uneven playing field that was going on in regards to the payouts for the GC500. To re-fresh everyones memories, a handful of players decided to start playing the 3/6 and 5/10 NL tables. They were receiving GC's every 5 or so hands. Needless to say those of us playing the .10/.20 and .5/1 NL tables didn't hardly stand a chance to finishing the GC500 unless we hit a Jack or higher. The odds of that were really slim at the time.

Maybe Cake needs to look into having different rake to GC ratios at the different blind levels to keep distribution equal. The way it's set up now is just as bad as before you changed to the multipliers for the GC500. You're rewarding the higher level players on to great of a curve. Soon, all of your promotions to use GC's will only involve the high limit players.

I understand that you're trying to run a business Doug, but as the patrons of your business some of us think you're heading in the wrong direction. Cake started out as a great new site that stood out and now it's starting to just be a poker site.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all of these responses. I know your plate is already full over there. Hopefully you can come up with a way to keep as many people happy as possible. I'll still play a Cake every now and then, but not nearly as much as I used to until the system gets tweaked a little.

Thanks again.

Ok, Info shows the last GC

At PL Omaha this time and checking the Avg Pot $6 and Hands/Hr 45 and I see the Last shown GC as a 7c. Very Nice for whoever caught it, was not paying close enough attention myself lol.

So they Are out there, just hard to get. Ya, would love to have a shot at the GC500 but so far it looks pretty difficult at the level I play, as no GCs yet.

Hope to see Everyone in the GC buyin tournaments.
They are the best value for your GCs imho

Good Luck and Good Games Everyone!

Cool

Over 4 hours PL Omaha?

Still not another GC since the 7c

232 hands, 40 hands an hour, avg pot $8

Also have a lower limit PL Omaha table open about an hour, $3 avg pot, have not seen a GC yet

Would really make it a lot more Interesting if some GCs would popup

I've taken another look with the team at Gold Cards with the team again, because it's always a good idea to challenge the idea to see if it can be improved. The fact is that Gold Cards are designed to reward players based on their contribution to the network. It was designed to be very generous to the first players on the site and to mature once the site began to evolve. They were never intended to come out quickly, but to be more of a suprise reward over time.

The entire promotion is not yet unveiled and different ways to get rewarded with Gold Cards have yet to emerge, ways that have been planned for over 3 years because we knew this evolution would occur and make an imbalance in the economy. Nothing is written in stone, but once the entire promotion is out there and everyone's had a chance to experience it, then we'll see about altering it. And the fact is that adding more cards to the lineup simply devalues all the gold cards you folks currently have from Series 1 and that's not something we're considering. It's our responsibility to insure that you get better opportunities to use your Series 1 Gold Cards for bigger and bigger prizes and that's already happening and will continue to do so.

The high stake players are the ones who are making the bigger rewards possible and as such, they are getting more chances to earn some of them. I would not suggest changing the system to penalize them, as they're driving up the Giveaway prize pools on the tournaments.

Make sure you login to your account at least once a year and your Gold Cards will never expire. If the $1-$2k Giveaways are not enough of a reward for you now, check back in a a few months and if we've grown more, you'll see even bigger Giveaways which you'll still be able to use your Gold Cards for.

I'm off for the next few weeks (new baby). Good luck to you all and thanks for the questions.

Thanks for taking the time with your team to look into the concerns of some of the THF members. While most of us feel that some changes are needed, it's nice to see that our concerns were at least look at.

Good luck with your new baby. try and catch some sleep when you can.
