Default Players can change their nickname

Hi folks,

So, I wanted to point this out as it's a feature of Cake that I'm particularly proud of.

You are able to change your nickname once every 7 days on Cake.

There are two reasons for this:

1) Because some people just want to be someone else for a while
2) To break people using tools like Poker-Edge.

Hand History data-mining is a scourge for online poker and Cake's proud to be the first site out there to take this step towards leveling the playing field.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on this matter as always. =)

Doug

Thank you, xtra. Since we decided to do this months before we launched, we were able to design all the security and safeguards to work on a hidden level.

When other sites decide to wake up and protect their members, they're going to have a tough time of it, because they've got huge databases, gigs of archived data and no way to quickly reformat it all.

Good idea, one question though. All the notes I've taken on particular players, are they lost when they change their nickname or do they carry over? Thanks!

Ive not signed up at Cake yet, but I have to disagree. I believe this is a negative for your site. In my opinion, one of the skills you need to develop as a player is to be able to identify patterns in your opponents play while giving away as little as possible about your own play. I feel that I have learned to give away much less than I take in about my opponents. Basically, poker at your site will consist of playing position and the 2 cards in your hand. Not very attractive for someone who is looking to improve their overall game.

yes but thats the whole point of the system. ie. say ive taken loads of notes on you and checked your style of play using results from online. By changing your username i will not have that advantage.

As you said though, you would also lose any note advantage you had over me

Im curious to the answer of CK's question about notes carrying over and i have another issue. Recently, a member of THF was reprimanded by Cake for not wanting to put his actual city name in his profile. The response from Cake was that it wasnt fair to the other players if they did not know which city you were from. Now its OK to change our SN but not our city?? Can you please elaborate on this?

BTW I'm all for changing the SN's as long as the notes i took using the sites note feature carries over as well. I'm all for leveling the playing field against the players who use software to track my previous actions but If i took the time to take notes on a player using the sites feature i would expect they be there when i need them. In fact I think I'll change my SN to Kim66 and challenge Fonz to a game of $5-$10 heads-up....... LOL

Can you use a name that someone has used before?? Can you go back to a previous name??

If you can use a name that someone has used before will the notes be on this person and therefore put you at a disadvantage until you get a new read, I have no problem with going back to a previous name eg. might want to play THF games under JONES T but all other games under J0NAH.

Just some more ?? to keep you busy doug

I believe the notes still carry on with a person even if they change their SN. Doug will need to confirm this though.
